I'm trying to build a car that I want to eventually enter in the "specials" class[*] of the GRM challenge. I just got a front end[+] from the local salvage yard, and I need to know the best way to clean it up.

What's the best method? Wire brushing, pressure washing, etc? Should I disassemble it and clean/prepare each part separately? If so, should I replace all the bushings and bumpstops at the same time?

[*] - Think of a 1930's full fendered streetrod built on a locost-style frame. After the challenge, I'd like to put a little more money into it, make it street legal and drive it on a regular basis.

[+] - It's from a 1990 Dodge Dakota. Yes, it has too much unspung weight, but OTOH, it is an IFS (...with a rack and pinion) that's short enough to fit under 1930's fenders. Think of it as a poor man's mustang II suspension

Best way - disassemble completely. Strip and refinish every part. New Bushings.

OK Way - Pressure washer followd by strategic masking and rattle canning.
