Our sales rep stopped by with a pre-production Subaru BRZ. I got to take a quick drive in it. Very smooth, nice power, car handled great. The seats felt like my Corbeau's. I can see where this would definately be an alternative to a Hardtop Miata. I can't wait to autocross one, I just wonder what class they'll be in. The engine did not feel like a 2 liter, pulled very strongly and smoothly. The ride was stiff, but not abusive. I think they have a hit with this one.

How was the handling? Steering feel?

I work at a Subaru dealer in Connecticut. The car looks slightly longer than a NC Miata. The handling was very precise, and the steering felt great. My normal summer driver is a NA Miata. The car handled very similar, with a ride like a lowered / stiffened Miata. Great power, I pulled out of our parking lot and just stayed on the throttle. The car squatted and accelerated, but it wasn't the crazy STI acceleration, but I can see where it's going to do well with cones. Decent visibility. At first I didn't care for the fender "crowns" but they really did help define the car. We're expecting our first real one in about 2 months. We have factory training starting next month, and usually the cars are in about the same time the last class is held.

one of the only things I hate abotu leaving subaru for nissan.
I waited for that car forever, and one month after I quit, they got one in!
My buddy that still works there told me they got one in, not sure if Charlotte is going to be a test market or what, but I need to figure out how I can drive it.
Thinking of either telling them I'm wanting to write a review of it online or telling them I want to trade my car in on one. lol

I can not quite communicate the level of jelousy I am feeling. I have actually put moneyon the table, and will have to wait until????? to even test drive one!

So far, you have confirmed my motivation for plunking down th $$$. Tell me something about the "Back Seat"? Will my laptop bag fit back there?

In reply to NOHOME: I didn't get to drive one but I sat in one at the Ft. Lauderdale Auto Show. Laptop bag will fit in the backseat. I sat my behind in it too (I'm about 6' 1", 175 lbs) and it was very reminiscent of the 03 Cooper S I used to have. No one will sit behind an above-average sized driver, but you could comfortably fit two passengers to the right of you for normal trips.

I may work at a Subaru dealer, but I drive a Miata, so that should count for something.

Well, he can forget that once he's achieved full Dork or greater status...

Well tell us about the REALLY important things!

How are ingress/egress? Does the entertainment system add unwanted flavors to music? What about the interior trim? How good are the gaps and general fit? Is the dashboard of a properly sumptuous texture? How many cupholders are there? Will they properly hold my designer bottled-water AND my Starbucks?

Enquiring minds want to know!!! I'm torn between a BRZ and a Camry.

Can I get the BRZ in a soothing beige?

Don't forget the crash-test safety ratings, iPod connectivity and whether it's been recommended by JD Power & Associates!

You just know that the Scion (Toyota) will be smooth and peppy, while the Subaru will be harsh and buzzy.
