Sorry it this has been posted before but I didn't find it in my searches. Does anyone know of any sites with a similar grassroots attitude about bikes. I commute often and would like to upgrade but can't stomach brand new bike prices. Thanks for any help.

Most older bikes that were made in decent numbers have forums specifc to them. I don't know of many good (or even poor) forums that cover lots of models/brands.

Motorcycle Classics or vice versa is a magazine I subscribe to. Its good and covers what you are interested in. They have a web site, but it doesn't seem to be anything like GRM. Its also not as good as the magazine. I haven't really looked at the web site in detail though. I delete my email often, so i don't have the web address. They cover all brands of bikes.

Just looked:

ADV Rider Epic travels and great stories, but some seriously resourceful folks on there

UTMC A little dark appearing, but some neat stuff

...and we're still holding out for the Sprokets forum here.

Search the bike you are working on and you may find a few of sites dealing with technical issues and locating parts. I am currently restoring a Yamaha XS650 and there are a number of web sites dedicated to this bike. There are some vintage motorcycle magazines published in the US, but the best in regards to service and maintenance are the ones that come out of England, though they are a bit expensive. A motorcycle grassroots magazine published in the US, even if it was only published four times a year, would be cool. Hint, hint!

I've been wasting some time at

http://www.customfighters.com/forums/index.php

which covers streetfighter motorcycles.

Here's a pretty good topic: http://www.customfighters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14559

and a quote from said topic : Well, I had the day off yesterday so I decided to do one of my favorite things. That is, modifying my bike for $0 and only using things lying around the house and shed.

+1 to advriders.com. They know their stuff. Just stay away from the faceplant section. There is enough in there to keep someone off a bike!
