Ever change the air filter on a 3.2-liter Porsche 911 Carrera? Ouch. The airbox has four latches, and two of them are located between the intake and the car's body. At least for me, the gap around the airbox is just a bit too tight. I can reach the top one with my finger tips, but the lower one is impossible.
Solution: Cover forearm with Vaseline. (I know, insert Vaseline joke here.) I now have a Vaseliney forearm, but all four latches are secure.
There's your tech tip for today.

So much win. Well played, boss.
I had a similar experience changing the cap in my 95 dodge ram. I had to sit in the engine bay. The distributor is on the back side of the motor and sits under the overhang that makes the dash. Tons of room in the engine bay to get at stuff unless you need to get to the cap and rotor.

Yes. And yes. That job is not fun.
an air filter on a 98-ish Chrysler Town and Country minivan with the 3.3(??) engine isn't much better.. they have a couple of snap clips at the top that are easy to get to.. then you need to remove a couple of 10mm bolts to actually be able to take off that part, and then there are a couple more hard to get at snap clips on the actual air cleaner housing, which is buried down low at about the level of the bottom of the radiator..

My '03 was the same way, impossible.
Spent an hour last night trying to get the last bolt in my exhaust manifold.

Similar technique for animal husbandry.
"Greasing up" before I work on the car usually means "Formulating a plan of attack before I shuffle my ass down to the basement." Since my brain darts around too quickly under normal operating conditions, this formulation requires at least 2 big-boy vodka tonics. Thanks for the "Greasing up" thing.

You grease up before you work on cars? It seems like my hands get greased up just by checking the coolant.

That trick also makes cleaning up afterwards quite a bit easier. The nasty grime won't stick to your skin nearly as bad with the Vaseline already there.
