I'm going to look at something very stupid tomorrow that I've wanted since I was three. Also, I'm bringing cash.
Literally Everyone said:
Uh-oh.
I'll give everyone a few hints - It's red, and it looks sporty. You can ask as many questions as you want until around 1 PM PST (4 PM EST) tomorrow, when I will finally reveal whether or not I decided to plunk down some cash.
Oh, this is going to end well

Gearheadotaku got it. A red 87 Fiero iron duke with the five speed.

What could possibly go wrong?
I just popped in there....
Check the the area behind the rear wheels for rust. Use a flash light and reach way up there. If it's solid, the body is most likely good. The duke isn't fast, but its reliable. 1987 is the best 4 banger. You get DIS ignition and serp drive belt, but not the strange balance shaft/oil filter housing combo thats NLA.
In reply to Gearheadotaku:
Thanks for the tips. Will do.
More Fiero content is exactly what GRM needed. Excellent choices all around.

I had a fiero once. It was better than I expected, right up until it threw a rod in the middle of nowhere Louisiana, 1500 miles from home. I left it in a hotel parking lot with the keys in it.
You'd be surprised how few pictures of sporty red sex toys there are online. Guess this thread is better off...
A friend of mine had an Iron Duke Fireo that he punched out to something like 3.3 liters.
Bring a fire extinguisher.
I can't remember there ever being a Fiero build thread on this site.

I hope it's a winner for you!
now you just gotta find a rusted out GTP and do a proper engine swap into it..
I'm hoping your childhood dream is similar to mine, and you build the lamborgatti fasterossa with it. The body kits and panels are plentiful, just needs some hammer time and welds

I did a V8 one for the $2012 Challenge. Sadly it failed at the last minute and never made it to the event. My fault for not listening to people who know better than I do.
Check on insurance prices.
Maybe times have changed but when cars like this were new, it was ultra expensive to insure a young driver on a 2 seat car. I know that may seem illogical but that's the way it was back then.
The answer is as simple as calling your auto insurance co or agent and asking, "if I was to get a '87 Fiero 4 cyl, how much would that cost me per month/year?"
They should be able to give you an answer while you are on the phone or at worst, by the end of the day.

I'm not young anymore, but my AW11 is cheaper to insure than my AE92. I don't understand it.
Well, the Fiero was a bust due to unmentioned issues such as a cracked windshield, annihilated seats, and someone who thought it would be a really good idea to spray paint some of the roof without doing any masking.
. Oh well, at least this gives me time to do an update on the truck.

I was young when I traded a Subaru station wagon for an RX-7, and my insurance stayed exactly the same.
