I was a tad busy with prep for a conference I spoke at yesterday for the last couple of weeks so instead of just booking a U-Haul car trailer, I checked, yeah, plenty available so I'll just go get one without a reservation. I'm usually not that much of a last minute disorganised person but between a bunch of other distractions I didn't plan ahead as well as I'd normally do.

The trailers all available for next the few half days until the weekend, when I need it to get my race car to Sonoma. Oops.

So I guess the decision as to when I buy a proper trailer for my racing endeavours just was made for me. This would've been much easier if the PO of the free lawn ornament that came with my race car would've been a bit more helpful when it came to providing the paperwork I need to register the darn thing, but I guess it was a gift horse. Plus at the price levels of used open trailers, it just doesn't make much sense to buy used anyway.

So I guess instead of a nice relaxed tow down to Sonoma, I'll spend the rest of the day dealing with paperwork and hoping that I'll make the practise session tomorrow (unlikely, car needs to be teched first and for that I need the safety harness that is, guess what, waiting for me down at Sonoma.

Anyway, rant over - fortunately I'm in the position to just buy a trailer as I have enough money in savings, but that's an expense I could've done without.

Try calling places like where you might rent a back hoe, a bobcat or other commercial equipment.  Some of these type places have car trailers to rent too.

If your lawn ornament wasn't so far away I'd be interested.  We can register it as homebuilt in about 30 minutes.

NV seems to be pretty strict on titling, unfortunately. Which so far hasn't been a problem.

In other news, I now have a nice 16" open deck trailer. And a race car with a clutch issue . Oh well, I have another month to fix that because it'll likely involve reworking some of the clutch actuation.

Damn Tim, you never can catch a break!

You have way more persistence than I do. I’m pretty sure I’d have sold all my car crap by now and taken us crossword puzzles instead.

I bought my first car trailer when I was 19.  I couldn't live without it.  I no longer have a Miata to race, but I still use my trailer.  And so does my dad, brother and cousin.  My dad also has a trailer, but his is a 10k and mine is a 7k.  They both get used often, and for different purposes.  Right now, my dad has my trailer full of mulch.  He backs it right to where it needs to be and shovels it off.  He hauls one of his antique cars about once a month.  I'll use it soon to move the antique tractor I'm restoring.  My brother uses it when he needs to haul his Kubota or John Deere tractors. My cousin hauls his off road Jeep to the off road place.  They all repair and maintain as necessary, and to my standards.

Trailers are awesome and useful.  Especially if you have the space to store them.

Register it in Maine. takes about a week to get the title and plate though.

Kentucky has no plates, titles or registration on trailers.  It’s so nice, I just need to find one.

The thought of nuking my fleet from orbit has occurred to me more than once, trust me. But if I took up crossword puzzles I'd probably ending breaking way too many pencils if I did that...

At this point it seems to be a combination of broken driver and problem with the car. The clutch pedal moves with relative ease until it hits a "stop" that I have to Godzilla it past. Once I do that I can actually get the transmission into gear.

Problem was that went I stamped on the pedal like I meant it, my foot smarted a bit. And a couple of hours later, I got up from the dinner table and nearly keeled over when I tried to put weight on that foot.

I'm about this >< close to cutting my losses on the car if we can't get the clutch issue sorted out, which is why I'm calling in the pros. What really hacks me off is that issues like this essentially prevent me from renting a race car, 'cos it's too risky for me to rent something only to find out that two laps in, I have to call it a day.

Oh, and I absolutely have to have a couple of races under my belt this year, so I can renew my license without too much fuss. And due to the runoffs at Sonoma, the SFR season has been shortened a bit, so I'm running out of time.

At this point in time, I'd be happy to let the lawn ornament go to a GRMer for a couple of hundred bucks donation to the local no-kill cat shelter. It's got plates and a registration in the PO's name, so dragging it out of my yard should be mostly legal.

Funny thing regarding the persistence - my family (other than my wife) still thinks I'm someone who starts a bunch of things, goes hey squirrel and never finishes anything.

They don't read GRM, though .
