Just flew into Winnipeg and am now at Gimley on Lake Winnipeg. I had heard this was a nice beach resort on Canada's largest, wholly-owned lake, but I must have gotten my seasons mixed up. The temperature hit 9 degrees here today.
On a more serious note, I was invited to the Mercedes-AMG Ice Driving Academy and I can tell you that so far this is one of the coolest (yet most desolate places) I have ever been. We just spent drifting new AMGs around various ice courses at night as fast as we can go.
Wish you were all here, it is a lot of fun despite the cold. I'll get the boys to post some pictures in the a.m.
Say hi to my friend Kara if you see her. She will not be driving an AMG as she is a high school music teacher.
Winnipeg in February is a good place to be if you're looking for ice.
Come back up with your TR for vintage weekend in August. Weather is a lot better on the roadrace track than the ice race track.

The weather may be fine, but watch out for a Gimli glider.
I would love to attend an event like this. Have fun Tim!
Hey Tim, I own Speedworld Indoor Kart Track (right by the airport) in Winnipeg and would love to have you and your gang come and do some racing and get a tour of my race car, the Pink Panther. Shoot me a message and I'll give you my cell number or contact me through the Facebook page for the race car Pink Panther Race Car or Speedworld Indoor Kart Track

A very good friend of mine just moved to Winnipeg. For love, of course. While Winnipeg seems like a nice place the winters make it seem insane to move TO there.
It would be awesome if you guys did a write up on Loosecannons projects!
In reply to dculberson :
Winnipeg has some awesome people, maybe the harsh winters build character? Our winters truly suck but summers are great. Everything sort of goes into hibernation during the winter but then the snow melts and BAM, there is something to do every day.
We did learn about the Gimli Glider. Cool story. And loosecannon, while I would love to stop by, Mercedes has me on a very tight schedule and I need to get home tomorrow to meet someone.

I never knew you were in Winnipeg, I have 2 test buses with the City of Winnipeg that I work on so i'm up there from time to time. I might have to stop by for some carting next time I'm up there, which should be in the next few months.
Glad it’s going well! To upload images, just click the photo icon. You can post them straight to the board now, no hotlinking required.
well this seems to have the makings of several cool magazine articles lol

I think that's true of any place that's hard to survive. Newfoundland is the same way, you get strong communities because otherwise you get no community at all.

Am I the only one that read that as "Dad? Really? Get with the times!"

I can believe it. I need to make it to Winnipeg some time soon to visit my friend.
In reply to iceracer: my computer says the Peg is currently -16C/3F, so Tim just missed the heat wave.

If you look closely at that first photo, you'll see a ship... at a dock... frozen in the ice. Tim's driving the cars on the lake behind it. He says that in between runs, they huddle in an ice fishing shack around a potbelly stove. He also said they go right back and forth between stove and cars, so he isn't wearing his jacket much. The high today is, indeed, supposed to be about 9 degrees F. ![surprise surprise](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/omg_smile.png)
Margie
No trip to Winnipeg is complete without a few moments standing at Portage and Main, just to experience how tall buildings can funnel wind to a particular spot. I always thought it was legend until I went there.
Looks like the ship has a bubbler to prevent hull damage. It still isn't going anywhere.
The lake george ships use bubblers.
It's amazing to me how many people are aware of, know something about or know someone from Winnipeg.

9 degrees in Winnipeg isn't cold. My sister lived there for several years and one winter in stayed below -35 for 35 days. Suck it up Buttercup.
In reply to DeadSkunk :
You're right, Winnipeggers don't think this is cold. This picture was taken yesterday

Gimli_Glider ....interesting read for those who don't remember the incident.
