Grippy surface for race car floor

What do you use? Currently just metal. Gets slippery when it rains. I need something that sticks with minimal prep and won't burn fast or make lots of smoke in a track incident situation. Bonus if it can also be used on the brake and clutch pedals. What would you use?

Bedliner? Or, when I paint the deck of my trailer, I get some of that sandy granular stuff they sell in the paint aisle at Lowes Depot and mix it in with the paint. I think it's usually used for painting concrete floors or walkways to keep them from being too slippery.

Grip tape, skate board shops have scraps they'll probably give you.

Downside: Eats your shoes alive.

I'd recommend bedliner, maybe with some of the extra-grip particles.

This kinda stuff:

Polyurethane base w/ fine rubber bits, not too chunky. Great on floors and metal faced pedals.

edit that hotlink: this brand WWC is enamel base w/ fine walnut shell. Polyurethane bases are available too w/ rubber or walnut shell.

Wing walk compound grit is smaller than Herculiner grit, won't grab your shoes as much but has good foot traction even in the wet. My first two driver schools and two regionals were all in the wet in open cockpit D/SR. WWC worked great w/ driving shoes. It did wear off some over time but a recoat is easy. I painted it on over bare aluminum though, no primer. Worked great on pedals too.

Still like Herculiner in truck and Jeep floors for dirt and mud, little too chunky for race car floor and driving shoes IMO.

Prolly similar in feel of the grit/ fine sand and the POR15.

Good: Automotive floor mats with something like construction adhesive applied to hold it down? Quick and low prep.

Better: Mats with 1/2 of a velcro strip sewn into the back, and the other half riveted to the car floor to hold it down? Medium Prep, but removable for cleaning/replacement

Best: Fred Flintstone? Berk it, floors are overrated.

Maybe a silly question, but is the fire rating or flammability of any of these options a concern?

If you have kids... Just let them play in the race car. Every surface will be sticky.

I do this in my daily drivers. It works great.

I do think the enamel with walnut is a better version though. The MSDS sheet for the rubber/ urethane version indicates high flammability.

Been many moon ago but the Randolph X-1567 in the hotlink is the WWC I used, just found it in the basement. It dries hard, not rubbery. You can build it up to desired grip.

I mixed w/ 1.5" paint mixer chucked in a drill motor, mix frequently too. Dabbed it on w/ brush end to deposit the grit, multiple applications to desired grippiness. Recoat as necessary.

Use it around the house too on exterior steps. Pretty neat stuff.

The aircraft guys on here may know of more modern stuff but this worked great for me.

I use 3m stair tread grip tape. Just two strips in front of the seat so I have a predictable place to get grip for ingress/egress. Keep it out of the pedal area so it won't eat your shoes.

I do this too, put it on the pedals, works great!
