I recently bought what was left of the bezerkeley. I am using the motor for my Amod car. It will also double my power. Anyways I was wanting info on the motor. I know it is an 01 750 but not much else. Is it a stock motor. If not what else was done to it. Thanks. Chad

What happened to the Bezerkley? One race and they parted it out?

IIRC it had handling issues and got sold on to someone who sorted/tried to sort out the handling.

IIRC, it traded hands a few times post-GRM but nobody could ever get the handling properly sorted. I lost track of it a while ago, though.

I LOL'ed at a quote on the SCCA board:

Funny how nothing will prove you wrong quite as effectively as getting to do exactly what you thought you wanted to do.

I know one of the previous owners, he said it was well built and fast as stink but the handling obstacles were just too great. A shame. To the OP: if you don't want the cage, PM me.

It was an evil little beast. A great idea, well-executed, but ultimately evil.

Even failures can be a worthy experiment. Now you know what not to do.

I would seriously be interested in the Cage.

I own the $1 subaru 360 and would love to have the oportunity to unite it with the cage/chassis of the Bezerkley to help make it a challenge car.

What was wrong? Wheel base? Roll center? Track width?

It was waaaay too narrow, it had too much power, and it was wrong wheel drive.

Somehow I had missed that it was FWD.

As long as you will TRULY do something melding those two, I will relinquish my request for the cage. Post pics, don't let us down!

Does anyone know anything about the motor. Thanks. Chad

I suspect that dropping a note straight to GRM would be your best bet for info there. The rest of us are just spectators.

Yup, what Keith said. That was several projects ago, so we'd have to dig for details.

From what I remember, they tried really hard to keep it within the confines of the stock Berkely body and with modern tires it would roll very easily and at fairly low speeds. I suspect some harder and less sticky tires (emergency spares?) would have made it much more fun (think; kid's big wheel) but would have been otherwise useless at anything competitive.

I think the person that bought it from them planned to widen the suspension and body (either cut the body in half and expand it in the middle or add huge flares) to reduce the tendency to roll over.

Here's the Project info on the website: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/project-cars/1959-berkeley-sports/ There's more in the mags, maybe the back issues are still available?

If you could just hire a race sidecar driver to make like a monkey and hang off the inside of the turn , you might be on to something.

30 years ago a friend put a Kawasaki 750 tripple into a Berkeley. He literally drove it once and put it up for sale. Said it was the most dangerous vehicle he'd ever been in.

You have about 10 months to make me forget that by the time i see you again.

This is your first and only warning.

Big internet talker! I seem to recall seeing pictures of it up on two wheels in what appeared to be a straight line.

That'll teach you to do a quick CG calculation before you put that much effort into a frame.
