At some point in my Falcons past the original hood prop rod was lost and replaced with a homemade version. This less than stellar device seemingly designed by Dr. Suess judging from its random twists and bends, managed to somehow pierce the hood. The PO decided to remedy this by means of ........
wait for it......
adhesive backed googely eyes!
Yep. He just stuck one on the hole and........"well they come in packs of two ya know" - sellers actual words.
The proper fix is a welder and bodywork. The car has an aging single stage metallic respray that would be impossible to match and I have no interest in painting the whole car. It is a good ten footer though and I want to keep it that way.
What should I cover it with?
Another sticker? metal spike? period correct dealer badge?
Any other ideas?

Great, now I need to go buy that and find something to stick it on ... J
weld the holes shut and paint the whole hood a nice semi gloss black.. you know, like a race car..
In reply to novaderrik:
Wrong look for this cruiser.
i disagree.. a flat black hood looks good on anything.. makes for better driving on sunny days, too..
how about a pair of stripes on either side of the hood that covers the area where the hole was on one side and the same area on the opposite side?
One spot of touch-up paint will be the least-noticeable fix there is, aside from a full repaint.

Pull em out and just prime the metal. It is only one little hole so it shouldn't be to noticeable from a few feet.
The GF just suggested nail polish as a touch up. Not a bad idea. Comes in tons of colors for under $5 a bottle, even has a handy applicator built in. Now to look for the smallest panel that can be removed and taken into the department store to compare colors.

Rustoleum is the answer.
You say it is impossible to match, but I bet if you buy a few colors, and do some mixing, you are going to come close to what you need. This works pretty much guaranteed if it is not metalic paint.
Tape off an area a bit bigger than the holes. Fill them with fiber reinforced filler, sand till smooth, prime, and either brush or spray your home mixed paint. Polish, buff or whatever to blend it in.
Start by mixing very small amounts of paint, and cut it in half as it grows in volume so it makes it easier to control the color adjustments. Invariably you end up with way more paint than you need.
I have done this a few times now with cars that are going to gether after a repaint and the new paint gets damaged.
Black hoods were standard on Fords once
You need to weld it and do it right... but you know that.
If not in the mean time throw a short bolt through it with the head ground near flat. Paint under it and dab some silicone so it doesn't loosen and rattle... Go on till you decide to do it right.
On colors like that if your paint is too dull. Use dark primer (rust reformer... Whatever flat/satin) then get way back and shoot it. Do not get a full healthy coat... Just enough to get the color close. Hit it with some 2000. Clear it. Rough it and buff/wax. Drive on miss daisy. That usually works for me on small repairs.
Fiberglass the back, a bit of filler, and some touch up paint?

the bolt idea could have some merit.. a couple of small button head stainless screws with nyloc huts on the back side- one for that side, one for a matching hole on the other side- and it will get a little bit of a "because racecar" vibe going on.. hell, ad little screws spaced every foot or so... or maybe add a bug deflector..
Instead of a bolt on each side pick up a set of R/C car body mounts and have a pair of tiny hood pins
leave it alone it adds character and a great story. since you are not building a show car any thing you do will show worse unless you decide to put on some kind of period correct ford emblem do not paint that hood flatblack........also the sideview mirror you know you can buy period correct ones new cheap.
Yeah leave the googley eyes on there
i see on your build thread that you replaced the mirror good i can sleep at night now. looking at your build thread i wish i didnt sell the coupe i just had

All you need is a yellow circle... You could even do it with sticker material so it's as temporary as the eyes...
I dunno, the googley eyes could be a good theme.
It'd be pretty cool to watch in hard cornering!
