Put it on the glass, it'll pop especially well with tinted glass, but even with clear glass it should show up well.

I got a quote for 200 single color 3"x8" for something stupid like $1300. Not a fancy logo, just text.

It's the quantity that's killing you. Unless you order thousands, it's just crazy expensive.
