GRM Ideas for fwd Volvo Wheels

I am looking to widen my 850 wagon's stance, but I recognize that there are not many options for the stock Volvo bolt pattern. I am trying to accomplish this in a GRM-way...and as cheaply as possible. Do any of you folks have any ideas?

I was thinking of maybe swapping hubs with some other manufacturer, but I am not sure which to go after.

I have been thinking of adapters, but I am not a fan of adapters since they seem to and a point of failure to the suspension and steering system.

Do any of you folks have any ideas?

You just want to acheive a wider track or do you want to run larger wheels?

Thanks Wider track and wider wheels. Height-wise. 16" and 17" are fine...it's the skinny track that is the issue for me. I see spacers on the market, but for $300 - $400, I figure there may be some better options?

All 5 Lug Volvo rims will fit. Try something from a more modern Volvo or the older rwd drive wheels from 740, 940 or 960.

For modern, look to C30, S40, V50 and even the Volvo suvs

30/40/50 wheels won't fit.

Best lower offset wide option that fits is the Thunderbird SuperCoupe or Lincoln LS V8.

You could also use Jaguar S-Type wheels (but I doubt those are cheap).

Another option for wider wheels are the Ford Windstar and FWD Lincoln Continental, although those are far from the most sporty looking wheels (some of the Windstar wheels actually aren't bad in my opinion though).

Humm! Cool idea. I will check out the junkyards to see what they have out there. There are some newer models. I have noticed the RWD wheels are pretty skinny too...but the offsets my poke them out a bit more

I should note that Focus ST wheels will fit too, but they're very high offset and may not give you what you're looking for (and are expensive).

Later 740 turbo wheels will the car wider. Limited to wheel width, though. IIRC they are 16 by 7".

I think the biggest issue with wider wheels on an 850 is the phenomenal turning radius that car has. If you go much wider than stock, the degree to which is can turn it's front wheels will see them rubbing long before you hit the lock

allow me to re-phrase. Phenomenal turning radius and small fenders.

850 had two lug patterns.

Are yours 4x108 or 5x108?

New-gen Focus wheels are 5X108. I have no idea what the offsets are like though.

Owning several 850s over the years I know what you mean especially the rear as it seems you would need a 3" spacer I do have a set of Volvo 17" Volan R wheels for sale

When my ex bought her '96 850 turbo wagon, it was fitted with some off-brand of aftermarket wheels and H&R lowering springs. They had wider offset than stock. Rubbed the fenders like a bitch - despite the fact the tires were smaller than they should have been. Since trying to make a big Volvo wagon into a sports car seemed counter-productive when she already has proper sports cars, they were replaced with OE wheels and springs (long since sold, along with the cursed car). Handled much better with the stock springs (and FSD struts) anyway.
