Time for more science experiments on GRM Live. JG Pasterjak will broadcast live from the ultra-high-tech GRM studios at 9:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, June 28. The topic? Fasteners! Do you know when to use nylon collar lock nuts and when to use prevailing torque nuts, for example? JG will discuss.
Sounds like a riveting hour, doesn't it? Once again, …

What, not one comment about JG playing with his nuts?
I took your advice to heart and considered the children.
There are a few of us around with a screw loose so there should be some takeaway.
I ordered a bunch of really specialized stuff from Deaze for this show. Hope it arrives in time for the demo.
Hey, showtime's in less than 24 hours. Once again you'll have JG in front of the camera and Ed behind it. I'll be monitoring your questions here and on Facebook and YouTube. Just before we go live, I'll post the simulcast to the original post in this thread. (Thread? Hey, a fastener pun.)

Thanks. It's a fine thread.
I'm sure we'll screw it up somehow.
A nylon collar lock nut is a prevailing torque nut, or at least one type of one.

OMG, that caught me by surprise. I laughed so hard I woke up SWMBO in the other room.

I lobbed him a couple of soft balls.

Technically correct. In practice, most specialty shops will use "prevailing torque nut" to refer to a nut where the crown has been distorted to place extra force on the threads when tightened. Or, at least, the ones around here do :)

Hang loose; in the bag tomorrow. I'm sure you'll be riveting.

In reply to Tom Suddard:
Oh man Tom is getting fancy.
Maybe my kids will go to bed (and stay there) at a reasonable hour tonight so I can watch.

Holy cow. I need to get my nuts polished and ready for the show.
See you at craft services in a bit.
We go live in less than 25 minutes. You can find the local feed in the first post of this thread. (Thread? Get it?)
Also, how things will work this evening:
JG is monitoring Facebook live. If you're over on FB, post a comment and he'll see it.
"But wait, I hate Facebook!" Fine, you can post your questions here or over on our YouTube channel and I'll relay them.
Okay kids are sleeping, chores are done.
Tell me the difference between grade 8 fasteners and AN or NAS spec hardware.
Just as soon as I find the feed on my Roku.

Thanks for the question. Once we're live, I'll relay it to JG. (He's still in makeup.)
No YouTube audio. Video quality is better than last week though.
Edit: Got it
Here's that fastener chart that JG just mentioned.
