This thread and this thread over in Sprockets have raised the question, but never had any input from staffers. So, I'm going to be that shiny happy person who grabs onto the tail end of the current Challenge-Mania and pose it again! Why not? Is there a way we could do it? Is it a manpower problem, insurance problem? If someone else organized it, could GRM promote it and use it for editorial content? Do you guys just want to stick to 4-wheeled motorsports and that's the end of it?
Anyone know of good go kart track in the middle of the country? Keep the CCs under 200 or something small and run best flying lap.
That was my thought, although without the CC limit- like the Autocross at the Challenge, you make it tight enough to keep the speeds low, and the weight differences of the more powerful bikes will sort themselves out.

Sorry to rain on your parade guys, but I don't see us sanctioning, running, or getting involved in this. For one, as much as some of us like motorcycles (and own them), our core business is making Automotive magazines. We've got enough going on with GRM, CMS and the events we hold to keep us busy.....very very busy!
Also, the insurance liability of something like this would be frightening.
I'm by no means the decision maker on this.....but I know I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole. I'd totally watch it, and support whomever put it together......but I wouldn't want a lawyer calling our office if and when things go bad.
In reply to Joe Gearin:
Yay a response! So it's a combo insurance/manpower/target audience thing, understood.
I really just want to run a MiniGP race but I haven't found anything like that in MO.

If you want to pitch the idea to a motorcycle magazine---- try these guys:

They have a really great publication that isn't all brand new sport bikes, or ape-hanger Harleys. It's my favorite motorcycle magazine by far!
Wait.... What if.... We made it about mini bikes?!?!? We all see those pit bikes in the mag. That's gotta be low danger margin and easier insurance. I owned a 150cc China X11 and it had a gear case and everything. Fun. It topped out at 35mph. The rules could just stipulate "all bikes governed at 35mph. As mentioned, make the track a super tight and narrow autocross.

Oy, I see bad things happening in a hotel parking lot the night before....

I had never heard of them- thanks!
This would be a great course for this - http://www.imimotorsports.com/
I visited this track over the summer for some go karting. In between go kart sessions they had a motorcycle HPDE going on. Looked perfect for Super Moto and small bikes.
