Oh, what joy.

No kidding!
I was at laguna seca this past weekend, and they have one set up as a safety/pace car. It had Brembos and super sticky rubber. Got to go for a few hot laps in it shotgun, and I was super impressed! It felt like a really fun ride. ... We kept up with their miata cup school car.
while this is nice and all, same as the juke, i'll care as soon as it is available with the stick and AWD. until then its just an mazda 5 in an SUV dress.
I call shenanigans!!
How in the bleeding heck did you guys get a stick-shift equipped CX-5 in the blue?!?!? Mazda's website shows silver, grey, and black only.

It's not as big as the 5, and it doesn't have a third row of seats.

Interesting. I tried and only got the same 3 choice too

I just look at the CX-5 as a station wagon on stilts, instead of a small SUV. Don't think I'd ever buy one, I still don't see the point of them. I'd rather have a sedan, hatch or true wagon.
Oh, and I think you'll have a hard time finding anything that is better than a brown AMC Eagle with orange stripes and a CB radio, so was that really a fair comparison??

Have you tried to find a true wagon recently? I'd rather have one, too, being completely put off by the SUV-esque thing...
But if VW doesn't acknowledge and fix the TDI fuel pump issues on the Jetta Wagon, we'll like as not wind up with a CX-5... As long as they keep the manual!
I'm waiting for the SkyActiv 5 first to decide which new car, but if neither one of them are offered in an actual color with the stick I'll probably end up with NOT a Mazda.
Are you listening Mazda? (Says the owner of a Mazda who's had four others previously...)
If it's anything like the Mazda5, the website lists it as existing, but the dealer query shows not a single unit on any dealer lot within a 250-mile radius.
I was considering a 5 at one time, but I wouldn't plunk down $20k+ on something there was no way to test drive.

What choices do you have otherwise?

Let's see here, with the rear seats folded down, the Mazda5 seats 4 and has 44.4 cubic feet of cargo capacity. With the CX-5, you get 5 passengers, 34 cubic feet of volume. It's not quite as apples-to-oranges as it may appear. The Mazda5 does have those sweet sliding doors though.

Well, Hyundai's upcoming HED-5 is an MPV without sliders that may even get a turbo motor + 6MT. The KIA Sportage and Sorento, Hyundai Tuscon, and Ford Escape are also all available with stick shifts.

I'm not really sure where else they would put it, the CX-5 seems like the obvious choice to me.

I'll let you in on a secret. There are photos provided by the manufacturer and these are some. They didn't really get one at the office in FL, drive it to Laguna Seca and take these photos.

The 5 was my original hope, though I dislike the restyle.

The CX-5 seems to get better reviews in terms of fun of driving anyhow.

I figured you guys didn't shoot photos at Laguna Seca, but at least make sure the stock photo you use actually represents the trim level/options you are writing about. It's not kosher to use ZR1 pics in an article on a base 'Vette, so why use a loaded out GT AWD CX-5 in a color not available in the stripper FWD you are reviewing?

Stock photography isn't always available to match the color car we got. I'm sorry to disappoint that you can't get it both in stickshift and in blue, but the engine is the same, the fog lights are the same, and so on.
