I've gotten ahold of the dealer with the unicorn Mazda5 but they are a typical slick willy used car outfit. It's a 2 hour drive each way and snowing now, so if I could get some eyes on it in person, especially mechanical, that would be greatly appreciated.

Where's ol' slick willy at?
I live in Tacoma but work a lot of weekends in Kenmore. If you can't find anyone sooner, I can look at this coming Saturday the 18th.
Having said that, I haven't heard the greatest things about that car lot.
In reply to iansane :
I should be up there to buy it on the 18th.
The sales guy opened with "Yeah, I have a family with five kids here now wanting to buy it"

Dern. If it weren't for the weather, I'd have time to go look. But with snow traffic I bet I'm as far out from it as you are and I have a 3:30 appointment...
Let me know what you need to know - its 20 minutes away from work for me.
This is the area of slimiest of slimy dealers though, not sure how much I'd believe them.
It's not far from me, about 10 miles from my house, but I have commitments tonight and tomorrow, so the earliest I could see it would be Thursday. Happy to do so if you need me to though.

I know that they are all slime, that's why I want to know if the car is hiding something before driving up there. I suspect it likely had a hit in the left rear due to the body repair work there, but the original dealer flunked it for mechanical. My bet is clutch. Would you mind taking a look at it for me? Happy to pay you for it!

Awright... do you have this in your plan today or should I go on out there? Don't wanna duplicate efforts...
Oooo titillating! I'm curious to hear how rough the unicorn is.

Hard to tell about clutch in the goldern snow. Bare and wet when I parked, by time I got the keys, hwy 99 was white. Clutch takeup was a bit higher than halfway from the firewall but not by much. It seemed to go stop and turn OK, the ABS works, the tires are utter e36m3 in the slop. There's a bit of panel fitment issue on the RF but I didn't try to look underneath. Could be normal, I took a pic. Both slide doors work fine. Could not tell in the snow if the LR corner had been worked on or not. There was a wee bit of whine on startup, nothing outta the ordinary, and there's a checkengine light. They dunno what for and I didn't think to bring my obd reader. I saw one little stain in the front pax seat, other than that the innards look well taken care of with no unusual wear. Weather started doin a pretty good impression of a blizzard so I cut quite short that testdrive. Lemme know if you have Q's...

Dude you are awesome!!! Lemme know what 6-pack (or other beverage of choice) I need to drop off this weekend as thanks.
Thank you for the info. It would be good to know what the CEL is for, I'll grill the sales puke for it. I'd love any pics you took, you can text them to the number I posted.
Damn Jav, when you find something you want there is no stopping you. Persistence FTW. Here's hoping the van is good and the price is gooder.

Did it pay off?
I stopped for lunch at this crazy awesome place in Seattle called Derby. It's a restaurant co-located with a car club workshop called The Shop. Think about eating lunch in the middle of a really awesome cars and coffee.
We'll be at the dealer soon.
