I'm a sentimental old E36 M3 and I'll miss each and every one of these, but the 911 and bugeye are on another level for me. I can't explain it but this goes way beyond pragmatics

Why isn't anyone saying "both"?  I say Both!  Take both!  Find a way to save up and take both!

Both, I say!

Wish I could.  $$$$$. This will end up costly and I'm trying to be realistic.

You're not the only one. I drove my 2003 MINI for 16 years until it got whacked by a Kenworth. The very next day I found an almost identical car, aside from colour. The "new" one had 12,000 miles on it, but it's just not the same feeling about it. There's no history with it, or adventures.

This thread is so far from grassroots that it is hard to even think about

Sell the 20ft enclosed trailer. Put both cars in the 24ft enclosed and ship all three as a unit to HI. I don't think it'll cost THAT much more to ship vs a 20ft and bug eye. Maybe a few grand more. If you can't afford that then sell both cars and both enclosed units and use the cash for the move.

I totally understand this.  The little Datsun 1200 has worth far beyond it's value. I have a standing offer to swap it for a Miata.

The Miata would run in the exact same run group as the 1200. I'd also have chance for an overall win with the Miata but after 40 years with the 1200 I'd miss the little car.

My concern about the 911 is that you mentioned the drivetrain has left the building. That's going to be an expensive fix, and doubly so if you have to have those parts shipped to Hawaii.

Taking emotion out of it -

-Do you have room to park one or both in a place that would let you maintain their condition?

-Is one or both worth way more (or way less) once you pay the boat ride to Hawaii?  May put some jingle in your pocket just to bring them there and unload them or you may find you brought in some impossible to drive, impossible to maintain boat anchors that were not even with free dollars once you are in Hawaii.

-Is there another vehicle that would be way more fun and rewarding to have in Hawaii than either one of these?  If I was moving to sunny California, I would love to have a little roadster.  If I was moving up into the mountains in Washington State, a sweet drop top K5 would be high on the list of fun cars.

Who are you and why are you on "this" site.

Logic has no place here.

(OK OK there is some solid rationale)

The pickings in Hawaii are very slim. I think many people buy in Cali and ship. I've actually looked at car costs in Cali and was shocked at the prices. Again,  though,  I haveca ton of history with these cars and that's something that, at least for me, there is no $$ valve.  They're mechanical family members.

How about storing one or both in one of these until you get settled? Just drop it off at your mother in law's and lock it up. devil

That's another option. I'll be driving the trailer to the west coast, then deciding whether to n ship it or load a container

Sell both. Buy Ferrari 308 GTS. wink

My concern with the 911 would be putting so much into getting it back on the road that my fear of anything happening to it would prevent me from fully enjoying it. I don't think I'd have as much of that problem with the Bugeye.

Maybe the real question is are you looking to have a toy or a project when you get there?
