GT3 or Z06

One other thought, if you have the dollars for a new GT3 (not sure if you were thinking new or used) a new ZR-1 is in the same ballpark pricewise and its the greatest American car ever built.

I think about this same thing at times when I can't sleep. Maybe it was while I was sleeping but whatever...

Both are great cars. I see drivers of both tearing it up at the tracks and doing very well. I like the greater value of the C6 and I think it looks better than the GT3. Both are very competent cars and its going to come down to driver preference and budget.

For a car that sees lots of track time, I'd prefer a cheaper car with more safety equipment - roll bar, seats, harnesses. E36 M3 happens. I'd hate to loose all that money if things go bad and the car gets written off.

Apparently I am one of the few that would choose the C6Z!

Have you thought about an Ariel Atom at all? That is one car I would definitely choose over the C6Z!

Man, I just don't know. The driving dynamics between the two will be so different. And you'll have to drive them differently. If you've got a similar vehicle, I would just try to get the one that is more different in driving dynamics. Exampe: If I had a 911, I'd buy a Viper/Corvette/M3. If I had a Viper, I'd buy a 993, an Elise, a Cayman. Not that I wouldn't have a Viper and an E30 M3. Just that I'd try to have different types of cars, rather than 3 C4 Corvettes or 2 Elises.

My father is goign through the same situation. He has a modded 997S and is looking at Z06's and GT3'.s

it's funny, in the latest Excellence a PCA instructor mentions he has a GT3 and a Z06 , his comment was "It probably won't get printed, but the z06 is faster"

We have 2 vettes and the 997.. completely different breed of cars.

I think it is a GT2 and ZR1 comparo and the verdict is ............

ZR1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they picked the Zr1 and stated that if GM could do something with the interior porsche would be in big trouble.........

Just watched Ultimate Factories last night where they spotlighted the Corvette factory. Those Z06s are sweet.

I have had the chance to drive both cars at the track. My two cents is that I would take the GT3 if you can afford it. It has just amazing telepathic steering that make the driving experience just awesome.

I personally have an 09 Z06 and I love the car. I am in the process of intalling a harness bar, seats, and harness and this will make it better for sure. I feel that I can go faster in the Z but it is not as easy and I feel that I need to make some changes to it to make me more comfortable at speed. A few corvetteforum members have installed a stiffer bar and better track meats (read cup tires) which now are supposed to just make it an amazing weapon.

I like to tinker with stuff and can't leave anything alone plus don't have the cash for a GT3. However, if I did the choice would be difficult. I'm sure you will enjoy either one.

Caterham R500, Radical, Ariel Atom. I think if the main purpose is track days those will be faster and more fun for less money.

Better yet, Cayman S with JRZ or Moton remote reservoirs, a full cage, and a built 4 liter Mezger. Yes...Yes!

So what did he end up getting?

I was looking into a Vette as a track car at one point before deciding to go crazy with the BMW and at least from what I saw on corvetteforums, it seems very difficult to get these things to not starve for oil, even the Z06 drysump not being up to snuff (esp on, if I remember correctly, left hand corners). My instructor once took me out in another student's base C6 with some mods and he whined about the crappy brakes and skittish rear end.
