Can we please get a 510 and maybe a Celica GTS4?

I like where Japan is going.

Big fast expensive cars, but few small cheap fun cars.  (The Integra is probably a longer Civic, and the current Civic is enormous, it's bigger than the Taurus used to be)

The Miata is a cornerstone nowadays.  The Frisbee twins are there, too, although it's discouraging how they are starting to slow-slide down the bigger and fatter slope.  And.... that's it.

I could get behind a 510, but Nissan seems to have zero design will nowadays, either through managerial indifference or a lack of money.  I don't see Nissan doing anything other than shoveling a new name on the same platform they use for everything else, which defeats the purpose.

It WOULD be amusing if they dusted off the prints for the S13 chassis and started cranking them out again, the way they kept making them alongside the S14.  I'm sure a lot of people would pay real money for a new S13, both in Japan and in the US.

The Corolla GR could be your Huckleberry, depending on specs. The Yaris GR definitely is, but once again, us Americans don't get the fun stuff

In reply to NickD :

The problem is the Yaris isn't sold in the US at all (the Yaris sold in the US was a rebadged Mazda 2), so they'd have to do all the fun certifications for what amounts to a low production run car, which means it would be expensive even before the Toyota dealers added 25% market adjustment because why not.

The good cheap fun cars are mass produced, so they can be cheap.

Also, I am getting the sneaking suspicion that Toyota is trying to get out of actually building new cars, preferring to sell other peoples'.

The Motortrend guy call the SE-R; "fun"

Oh yeah, I miss those too!

Even the base model Sentra (which allowed the SE-R to be sold so cheaply) was a fun thing to drive.  It didn't make tons of power but the 1600cc engine was willing, and the chassis dynamics were good.

Indeed...I had a '91 Sentra XE that we bought new, and that was one of my favorite "cheap" cars ever. I think we paid like $9k for it out the door, and we never had a lick of trouble out of it. Not a powerhouse, but enough spunk to be fun and tossable.

I only experienced the SE-R and I still miss mine. I also miss my S13. Nissan really lost the plot after the French got their claws in them.

Exactly why I just bought a new Miata. I fear these next few years might be my last chance to buy a new, cheap, lightweight, engaging sports car, so I jumped while I could. Potentially the last of its kind before it too goes electric.

The new BRZ is literally like 15 lbs heavier than the outgoing model.

The Integra was a shorter-wheelbase Civic. If Honda shortens it by 2" this time, it'll be the perfect size. I'd have some trouble deciding between the base 2.0T and the Type R.
