Not that I'd buy one for autocrossing, but I was looking over the SCCA stock classes tonight, and didn't see the Chevy Colorado V8 listed anywhere, so I assume its consider NOC, and is dumped into H-Stock. I know its an automatic (and a truck), but with 300 HP, an LSD, and the sport suspension do you think it'd have a chance, at least on longer courses?

I'm not sure that it would even be allowed out, but it is an interesting thought. It sounds like it should actually be an F-stock truck, if it is allowed out.
Agreed. I thought pickups NOC are in H, but V8 pickups NOC, were F-Stock. Some Colorados seem to sit quite low. I assume that's the sport suspension. The Typhoon and Syclone are in F-Stock, IIRC. My bench racing sense makes me think cars like the BMW 850CSi would be too much for V8 pickups, but the SCCA probably knows more about this sort of thing than me.
Ahh, you guys are correct, it is in F-Stock - I missed that V8 trucks were sent there. It'd get destroyed in that class.
I seem to recall some mid-pack H-Stock finishes by a GM truck a few years ago, but don't remember the details, or even if it was an S-10 or Colorado.

Dodge Dakota
LOL not really . . . I did really well in DD Dakota a few years back. I was about 2 seconds off the local guys in FS when the truck was on Bridgestone All-Terrains
The noise that those tires made!!
the ZQ8 equipped S-10's did ok in the early 2000's.

There was a big discussion regarding a Toyota that did surprisingly well in HS at a Pro (or Tour) last year. Big and heavy, but buckets of power and stiff (for a truck) suspension.
Trucks/pickups get hosed by every rules maker out there when cars are involved.

I wouldnt be surprised if the toyota truck in question was an x-runner. That's probably the only not-fullsize-and-diesel truck id consider paying more than $5k for.
Hey, maybe we can get the SCCA to create a class for older muscle cars and pickups? Oh no, not other class.

Seems like a case of bringing a knife to a gun fight.. Auto-crossing a pickup is like racing a school bus. Funny, but what's the point? Surely not to actually win anything, right?

Yep. It was the X-Runner. And it was surprisingly competitive. There was a lengthy thread about it on SCCAForums along with a FastTrack classing decision, although I forget what the final outcome turned out to be.

I'm not REAL surprised that it was competitve... despite it's weight, it turned in performance figures pretty similar to that of the 350z.
Autox would not be it's strong suit, though. I'd bet that if you put it on a road course against the other cars in that same class, it would annihilate.
In my first year of Autocross, I got absolutely stomped by a well-driven Dakota. They can work surprisingly well, but you'd better love the one you drive because I don't see any pickup winning a big solo event in the near future.

Not everyone wants to drive the same tin can Civic/Miata/Mustang/Camaro/insert sporty compact car here as the next guy either.
The guys at GM High-Tech Performance warmed up an LSx Silverado a couple of years ago and autoxed it. They lowered it, added sway bars and the like and had a ball.

Similar comments were made within the sports car community when the first hot hatches began showing up at races and autocrosses. Run what you like, have fun and deal with the results.

How is that even possible? It's got to be down 50hp stock for stock on a Z, and while Zs are pigs, it has to be a good bit heavier.
Always thought the X-Runner was a weird also-ran against it's performance truck contemporaries. Weak engine and rear drum brakes? Nice try, Toyota.
There is a Ram SRT-4 sitting outside my apartment. It is kinda hot.
