One street over is a house that I see several XJ Cherokees being worked on and modified. I've been hanging onto a brand new dropped Trac-Bar (3-5" lift) from Rustys Off Road.
I figured, they could use it more than I can so I said "I'm just gonna show up and give it to 'em".
So in the dark, poring rain I pull into the driveway and there's a kid on his back under an XJ and a girl on a couch in the garage.
I'm beginning to think a stranger (me) carrying a 30" long steel pipe up the driveway in the rain in the dark might be a really bad idea.
Turns out the owner was a great "kid". He was grateful (it's a ~$120 part). He told me he's building a garage out back and is going to do brake jobs, wheel bearings and jobs like that and if I ever need anything, just ask!
And with a firm handshake, I was on my way.
Maybe a boring story but in spite of how the world seems to be going, it was nice!

I was also beginning to wonder if typing that story was a bad idea so thanks for the feedback!

Well done sir - showing your car guy. Always try to remember how many people have helped me out over the years just to be human.

Paying it forward. Nicely done!
I agree it's awesome to be generous. Good for you.
Once I stopped the steel/junk collector dude to give him a L28 Z car engine block that was collecting dust.
I told him to grab his buddy and they can lift it into the back of his old beat up truck. In his broken English he said it was his wife so I helped lift it.
Paying it forward. Nicely done.
I gave a kid with an old chevelle most of my leftover parts. I remember when i was 16 a guy in his 30s doing similar things for me.
I also try to give back any way i can. Many people have helped me to become the man I am today, so I try to help others become the men they want to be tomorrow.
Thanks guys!
It sure made me scour my memory of other stuff I might have!

To me, this is what keeps me coming back to cars. All the leg ups people have given me over the years and being able to pay that forward makes the headaches, skun knucles and lost money all worth it.
I recently did similar for a young guy who bought an engine from me, kicked in a bunch of extra parts which made it like Christmas for him. He wanted to give me more money, but I told him I was just paying forward what others had done for me. He was very humbled and grateful for it. Hopefully now one day he goes on to do the same.
Keep up the good work guys.
