Did you lock yourself in a room with the block, parts and a tool box?
Did you threaten the world with bodily harm if you were disturbed?
If you answered no to either of these questions, you are a better engine builder than I am.
I would be lucky to organize the parts to assemble an engine in a weekend, much less assemble it, and I don't have any kids. More power to you.

My engine building program estimates around 425hp at 6000RPM with a full dual exhaust. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with whatever it puts out.

Well I had them organized prior to the weekend.

Funny thing. I originally assembled the rods/pistons/rings/bearings, then installed them in the engine with my son Brad, who wanted to learn how to build an engine. Then that night laying in bed I started second guessing myself. I was distracted because Brad was there, and I started doubting that I did everything correctly. So I got up early the next morning, removed and inspected all the pistons/rods/rings/bearings/, and re-installed them. So I can relate to your comments for sure.

And second guessing myself is why I want no interruptions and a check list. I have a one track mind and interruptions are almost guaranteed to scatter parts all over the street.

This coming weekend I'm hoping to degree the cam and install the heads. Not sure how the weekend is going to go though, so I may not have time. I'll post an update if I do. Maybe I should have done this in a build thread...Oh well...

Thanks! I'm hoping to finally get the driveway paved this summer. I'm really tired of all the crap that comes in the shop. But I have to re-construct a large sandstone wall before the paving can happen.
That garage/shop setup would definitely be a dream for me. Very nice.
I agree on the gravel driveway. I have one too and it is fairly unsafe to even jack up a car on one, and forget about rolling around an engine stand or hoist on it.

I try to do most of that kind of stuff in the shop. But every time I drive a car in there, or even walk in, I track dirt and gravel in with me. It makes it very difficult to keep the place clean, since I would rather be using it to work on cars than cleaning it! I'm still going to have some of that even so, since my driveway is about 450 feet long and I can't afford to pave more than just the area between the house and the shop. Come to think of it, if I pave that area, then I'll be cleaning both that and my shop! Ugh, maybe I'll just keep it gravel...
