I have a set of Hankook RS2 tires that i got on close out from the tire rack in the fall, that i am going to run in autocross/track days this spring/summer. I was wondering if anyone on here that may have ran these tires could tell me how long they lasted and how they liked them. They are discontinued now and i heard they werent better than Falken azenis, but i cant get the Falkens in my size, and they but are a big step up from highperformance all seasons that i ran last year. I picked them up for 89 bucks in a 245 45 16 Size. for that price i couldnt pass them up especially since their is no RS3 replacment in that size.

We got less than 1000 miles out of a set of 225/40/18's on a 2005 GTO with a factory-spec alignment. I have an autocross friend who got less than 5000 miles out of a set of 205/15's on an E30 (including 3 autocrosses). There's a reason they went out of production so quickly. I have no love for them at all.

In reply to P71: was that GTO all street miles? if so sounds like something was wrong with that set, ive driven mine at least 1000 miles and they look good, and grip well on the street,if anything the grip has gotten better after the first 500 miles. this is on a 3500lb 3rdgen so their weight is similar, then again if i had the GTO's LS motor i think theyd wear out faster, but still not that fast.

Yup, street miles. Granted our roads up here are pretty suck right now, especially I-5 from here to Canada and back. The winter of 08-09 had tore them up pretty bad and nobody fixed anything. I can see a bad tire, but not a whole set. I think they just suck on rough surfaces.

I run that same size on my Celica. 245/45-16s. I've got over 10k miles on this current set, and i've still got half tread in the front, and barely any wear in the rear. I will rotate and get another full season out of them.

I ran them before in 215/45-16 and got about 25k out of them before i got rid of them. They still had some life in them.

For what it's worth, the RS2s are faster on my car than the Falkens were, and i've never once had a problem with any of them. I've bought 3 sets of RS2s over the years, and loved every set of them.

But what i've also heard, is that the RS2s don't like heavy cars as much. I can't comment, since the heaviest car i own is 2500lbs.

Would you like to sell me that set of RS2s? I'm serious, by the way.

How many miles will a tire last ? That is like asking, how long is a piece of string. There are so many variables.

In my experience they don't last too long on the heavier cars out there. I think they are great for smaller lighter cars. On my subaru in a 16 inch variety, they only lasted a summer. Sidewall is softer than the azeni, and had a more vague feel during turning.

I did back to back tests with the rs2 and the azeni at small track we autocross at. The azeni was worth about .5 seconds over the rs2 on my stock wrx wagon, over a ~60 second course.

Those wont work at all, youre going to have to send them to me for disposal :-)

Hey Hankook why the hell wont you make an RS3 in that size?

I paid $50 per tire on Closeout (225/50/16) at Tirerack. 5,000 spirited road miles on a WRX and they are ~50% gone. I auto-x and run HPDEs on R-comps, so they don't see a lot of true abuse.

I ran a track day last week with a friend in a 2005 Civic Si - he has the RS-2s also. 5 x 15 minute brutal abuse (2 wheels off on several corners) and they showed minimal wear.

RS2's on my daily driver GTO since last August(not counting Jan or Feb when it was too cold here in Tn) and hardly any sign of excessive wear. And I havent rebuilt the front end to replace the bushings yet. The parts are laying in the garage just waiting on a free weekend.

'87 944, 225/50-15 tough to find size. Lasted 5 or 6 track days, some autocross, and 13k street miles. Grip wasn't up to today's street tire wars but very acceptable. Would have bought another set but they discontinued.

No kidding. We have no choices in that size anymore. I started a thread on it about a week ago. I'm so mad. I can either run conticrap or Fusion, or make the leap up to RA1s.

WTF?

I think P71's experience is very odd. I've known several people who've run these tires with no abnormal wear.

I'm starting to think the same thing. They were clearance RS2's so maybe the last sets just weren't up to Hankook's normal quality?

I'm almost wondering if they were just an old set that the compound had already started to break down or something.

I've run a few different types of Hankooks over the years and i've never had an issue with them. Actually, Hankook and Kumho are the only companies that i HAVEN'T had an issue with, for that matter.

In reply to 93celicaGT2:

I had that same problem tire shopping. if you go with a 245 50 r 16 you get more options, but even then, the best street tire i could find in that 245/16" wheel other than the hankooks were goodyear eagle F1, but those are double what i paid for my RS2's on closeout.

im gonna run these tires till they wear out, and then try out the Kumho XS in a 265 45 16 that is the only other tire in a 16" wheel that i found, that would be wide enough for my ride. every other brand that sells sticky summer street tires seems to cut off 16" wheel tire width at 225 now. I might just have to start looking for some 17s, wich sucks cuz i like my 16"wheels.
