I am happy!! MY 78 924 just came to life after 8 years!!! Ive been trouble shooting electrics, found two cut ends of a small wire in the ignition system, studied the schematics for awhile, jumpered them and finally it started! after a little timing adjustment, it sound Really GOOD too! music to my ears, 2 liters of porsche rock rattle and roll... a bit late for the challenge, still no brakes.. but progress... i needed this, things havent been going my way for a long time.. maybe life will show me a brighter side for awile now :) just wanted to share...its miller time!

Good Job. It always makes you feel good when these things start up.

As I used to see on T-shirts outside of Navy bases: Picture of a submarine with a mushroom cloud in the background. Caption: A long day, twelve empty tubes, a mushroom cloud. Now comes Miller Time.

Awesome! We had the same feeling yesterday when we replaced the gas tank on the Fire Jetta and it started again. Now if we could keep it starting. Need to figure out if the drain back valve goes on the supply or return line from the fuel tank.

Congratulations! We'll see you at next years Challenge then!

Glad you got it running again. There was alot of work put into that car. Did you find out what caused the fire?

Our little campfire was caused by a combination of not having heat shields and the ignition being so advanced that the exhaust got hot enough to ignite the undercoating. Not sure what happened to the advance because it was set last time it was running. Turns out the 86 GLi had no provision for heat shields, my buddy had the same happen to his 86. We installed the heat shields from the 94 parts car and adjusted the timing, so it shouldn't happen again.

Wow. Ok, I'm glad I didn't throw mine away. I was going to leave mine off. Glad nobody got hurt, though. That's alot of heat near the gas tank.
