We need to replace the harness on the car we're prepping for ChumpCar and are debating whether we switch from the 5pt setup currently in the car to a 6pt. What's the feeling out there on safety benefits of a 6pt versus a 5 pt? Obviously it would be a little less work and cost to stay with the 5pt setup and if there really isn't a need from a safety perspective it may not be worth the bother and expense to go to a 6pt. Any opinions?

The theorey is that a 6 point will be less likely to crush your jewels, but in practice, the ones I've seen only exaggerate the issue.

We have an article posted online that might help answer some harness questions.

I debated switching from 5 to 6 point but found that the design of most of the reasonably priced harnesses didn't really separate the sub belts enough to make it seem worthwhile/functional. Once you get into the high end stuff their design looked like it would work to keep from getting squashed grapes. The seat will also need the extra holes for the 6 point.

6-point if you can get maximum separation of the lower mounts, 5 point if you can't. The comfort improvement of a 6pt shouldn't be overlooked.
