I have a spare SBC sitting around collecting dust. Its a Vortec 350.
So what car should I get to put it in that isn't boring. I'm thinking some classic european GT cabrio. Think cheap, and think about something that isn't sacrelige to drop in a random SBC.
The goal is to have a neat nostalgic car to drive around and look cool (get chicks). Performance isn't the biggest issue, but should be considered. I'm a classic american iron guy so I need you guys to help me pick one. I'm thinking something like a spitfire or MGB, but they are not a good match for a big heavy V8. I was thinking along the lines of a classic jag convertible, but they're just darned expensive.
I've got a 1952 Morris Oxford that I'd let go cheap for someone who wants to do something that is totally against good judgement and common sense.
I'm in B.C. Canada.

I thoroughly applaud the project idea. Please proceed.
She on the other hand may not be as enthused.

Here's my little rockabilly girl. I don't have any photos of her working on a car, but I do have some old photos of her at a car wash... but they'd get deleted

a local charity has this on fleabay: 1972 Jaguar X-Type XJ6 with a 350 already in it.
They keep reposting it if it doesnt sell, normally at a $100 discount everytime. I've seen this one for months now.
xj6 would be a posh family hauler...
but i'd say an s10 :)... fun and easy...

Z Car for the win. Pleany of room for a V 8, light, proven winner. I have had two conversions, beat myself every time I think about when I sold them. Really, an easy swap, and wonderful results. Change the plugs without drama!!!!!
I love these cars... someday I will locate one in good shape and violate all rules of sensibility and good taste by stuffing an S2000 powertrain under it.

I didn't say I was picking up the chicks for me...
I like the ideas so far... practical and do-able. But maybe a bit more obscurity and flash? When a girl sees a shiny 280Z going down the street, all she sees is an old Nissan. I would rather have an ugly obscure car than a pristine common car.
I missed an opportunity a few years ago. I found a 67 Ferarri without an engine or tranny for $4000. It was a basket case, but in hindsight I should have scraped up the money and dropped anything in it for a while - a 350, a Toyota V6, a flathead... anything. Drop some paint on it and just get laid

Volvo P1800ES? MB 300D? BMW 528e?
XR4Ti? Volvo 240 wagon/sedan? +1 on old Mercedes.
A Ferrari 308GTB ought to be pretty cheap to buy with a bad motor
This will bring the chicks... (no affiliation)

Cheap as hell to buy - As long as you are not planning to use the factory engine - that seems to be where all the coin ends up in those cars. When they run right they make a SBC seem like a really poor alternative though. Listen to it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7N_Ow5KVM4I
