Bad engined 928's are really cheap.

You could even do this:

Ooohh...a 928 would be sweet. Then you could build something like this totally bad arse 928 track car!

sorry... didn't mean I found the car, I meant I found the thread about a good car for the swap. Still looking for the car. :)

I'm asking you all to dig deep. Since I'm a classic american car guy by trade, I have no idea about some of the great possibilities out there. Someone just posted in another thread about an Opel Mantra. I've never even really heard of it, which means there are a few hundred possibilities out there that I'm missing. I would love some ideas about really oddball sexy cars that I've never heard of.

For example... I think something like an XKE would be a good sexy convertible I could do, but buying an XKE won't happen cheaply. Something like an MGB or Spitfire would be cheap, but not a wise choice for an iron V8 of that size and weight. Something like a 928 or 944 would be a practical and cheap idea, but they're not exotic enough to really turn heads.

I want something with obscurity and allure, big enough that it will swallow the V8 and be able to use the power, and something that can be had cheap. I'm a hotrodder, so I have endless supplies of axles, transmissions, and other junk I can weld in. I'm looking for a sexy, cheap, and obscure shell that I can stuff this 350 in and turn some heads. In a nutshell, if I have a Porsche, its just a Porsche. If you were a random, non-gearhead person and you pulled up in a Porsche, not many heads would turn, but if you pulled up in an XKE it might be different.

I don't ask for much, do I?

Another vote for the XJS. Some Euro lights & bumpers, nice paint, and you're there. John's Cars even makes a kit.

You want something curvy and cheap, and not tiny it sounds like.

Well... I can't really help you. All I can think of is an Opel GT. Absolutely cheap... but not sure if the curves are enough to get you there.

Looking around your area all I found was this. Not exactly curvy but definitely some unique, stylish lines. Would probably need a lot of $ to restore but much less to make grassroots cool

yikes, missed this one (babe rally coming up) +1 for the 944, got my '84 for 350 with a blown motor, just had to repair an obscene amount of battery tray rust.

ahem:

http://www.porschehybrids.com

Has a wiki that talks about how to put chevy in a 924/944.

What more do you need?

Heh, good luck!

Seems totally wrong to even suggest it, but here's a BMW 3.0 in your area: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NO-RESERVE-COLLECTORS_W0QQitemZ190307002785QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item2c4f2e69a1&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1308

I don't care if its totally wrong. My idea of blasphemy is not doing what you want with your car :)

Ok... so far the Opel GT and the 928/944 trip my trigger the most. I'm leaning pretty hard toward the Opel simply because its a bit more obscure.

... and after someone has done this to an Opel, all bets are off.
