Like the title says, have we? I don't remember seeing any threads on them. I'm idly "shopping" for my next car and they just came to mind. The 135 gets me all excited but the horror stories about the HPFP failing has really steered me away.

I did see there's a sports package option on the 128. What does it include and can you tell visually?

I think the seats are a giveaway visually. But I'm not certain.

The seats are the giveaway for a sports package equipped 128.

Good luck in your search. We started looking in May of 2015, using a broker service. We gave up in early September, bit the bullet, downsized to one vehicle for DD purposes, but upsized that vehicle to a new F150.

I am confident that the F150 would blow the 128 away in a drag race . . .

Good Luck. I've never seen one in the wild. I looked for a while. Most of the 128's were automatics. Only like 3 in the whole state of texas right now are manuals and they are all stripped. The 135i is a pretty fun ride too.

My wife has a 2012 128i 6spd., non-sport package. She loves the car. Get the sport package. I don't like the seats; I feel like I'm sitting on them and want to fall out during cornering. The rest of the car has been great. We bought at 18k miles as a CPO last year (had to fly to CT to buy it with a manual trans.) and it is up to 34k miles. We have had something with the VANOS repaired when the car was stumbling a bit at idle and the throttle wasn't as responsive as it should have been (warranty fortunately). Also had a transmission shift linkage seal replaced due to a leak. The only mod I've done to the car is to replace the Clutch Delay Valve with one from an M-car. 20 min job and made it worlds better to drive. So far it has been great. Mileage isn't the best, maybe 24ish mpg average according to the computer, but my wife doesn't track it. Ride and handling are quite nice and the steering feel is much better than any of the EPS systems out there today. The only other complaint about the car is the halogen headlights aren't the best. I need to re-aim them still, but they are just dull compared to others out there now. Right now we plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off.

All the HFPF issues on the N54 135i have been fixed by now. Every car on the road has either had the defective pump fail and been replaced with the revised pump or got the revised pump from the factory.

The 128i is a great car if you don't feel the need for the extra horsepower of the 135i. They're a little more reliable since the engine is more sorted (it's basically just a revised version of the engine in the E46 330i) and they run cooler and there's no turbos to worry about having to replace.

If you really hate the seats and can't find a sport model. There's a fair amount of 135i's at recyclers and you could swap in those seats.

Personally for me, the 135 was the way to go. As a teenager, I would've dreamed to have a twin turbo Inline 6 coupe with a 6 speed at a price that barely breaks into 5 figures.

That's good to hear about the HPFP. I was perusing a couple of BMW forums a little while ago and it seemed like people were still replacing them.

People with tunes still occasionally have problems with the HPFP but that's because it isn't up to the job of increased boost, not because it's defective.

Dear tuners - just because the block can handle it, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

This was my thread, from a couple years back. 'splain 128i... I started inquiring about Miata's about 4-5 years before I got one, I might be due for a 128i soon (if I can find one...).

And, apparently, I jones for these more than I thought.... Automotive ADD, 128i, salvage titles?

My boy told me it was time for a C5. Now what do I do?
