I'm browsing the brake pad selection over at tirerack.com for Project No Torques and it looks like I can get these new, "best for everything" pads for the RX8 instead of my normal, go-to HP+ pads.

Has anybody here used them? I found a few threads that suggest them, but I haven't found one where someone actually played guinea pig.

Apparently the Street/Race pads are based on the DTC-30 pads, but they've attempted to approve the "streetable" characteristics. If you look at the heat range performance graphs online, they list the DTC-30 and Street/Race pads on the same line.

I've used the DTC-30s in my Miata chumpcar and they're generally good in both track and street scenarios, but I found them a bit grabby. Other members of the team were fine with them. Some of that improved with stiffer springs which improved weight transfer, but I was also running them in both the front and rear, when I probably should have run a less aggressive pad on the rear.

On my RX-8 I've only run OEM, HPS, HP+. I prefer HPS for the street and HP+ on the track. The RX-8's brakes are amazing. I suspect the Street and Race pads would be worth trying for a dual duty RX-8.

Thanks for the feedback, I ordered a set of them together with new disks. I'll report back how I like them.

Haven't tried HP+ but used HPS on my RX8. It stopped very well.

Hps here as well, needs a little heat but still great, oem has amazing initial bite though.

I used HPS on my old 318ti that I also upgraded with 330i brakes. (the 318ti used the smallest, non-vented rotors in the BMW world) and I have to say that stopping was phenomenal!

I loved my hps but maybe I should try some of the street/race if they don't dust too bad. Then again I guess I need to get a car they make the pads for :( damn driving antique cars.

This is relevant to my interests...I'll have to see if they make them for my 'rolla.

Yup, I'll be listening for feedback too. Trying to find something street/track for starting HPDE in the miata.

This is the graph I was referring to: http://www.hawkperformance.com/compound-graph

The street/race pads don't appear to exist for '94-02 Miatas.

A young woman I know has gotten very into HDPE with a bone stock 08 Impreza. She was burning through a set of OE-style ceramic pads in a weekend once she got faster. I got her to put the Hawk StreetRace pads in, which she has been using with great success since (both on and off track). I've never driven them, but they seem to offer an option for you.

I ran Hawk HP+ pads on my 91 MR2 which has brakes pieced together with Supra rotors and Wilwood calipers. I really liked them. Once you got a little heat into them they would really start working. so, they're fine for the street and can take some track abuse.

I've also used Porterfield R4S pads which good results. Those are definitely a little more dusty.

DTC-60 are fantastic on something the general weight and speed of a 2200lb S52 powered e30 with big brakes.

They are very progressive both on and off yet have reasonably high torque characteristics. The downside is wear. They go pretty quick and are E36 M3 below 20% remaining.
