Headroom/Legroom in toyota sports cars.

I currently own a 1986 300zx turbo and at 6'6" and 240 lbs, it and other Z cars are just a few of the sports cars I can fit in comfortably. I've been checking out Toyota's and would like to know if the Supras, MR-2's, and RWD Celicas have the interior room that would fit my frame.

Supras and RWD celicas, yes...

MR2s might be pushing it. I think the biggest guy i've seen in an MR2 was about 6'3" and 260lbs, that was an SW20.

I owned a MR2 mk1 in high school and I'm 6'1". My dad is 6'2" and was probably 270 lbs at the time. Size 13 feet. We both fit inside alright. I did have t-tops though. I cont remember how much extra room there was though...

At 6'1" and a 33 inseam, my 1988 MR2 was a tight fit. I found some more room by fitting a aftermarket 13.5" steering wheel. I do not think I could have fit the 5 more inches that you have.
'85 & '86 MR2's have the parking brake handle on the driver's side.
'87 to '89 have it on the passanger side.
I did not fit into the early cars because of this.

You clearly would not fit into to my '90 Miata.

My '97 240sx did not leave me much room either. I was tight on headroom.

I am 6'3" and closer to 300# and I loved my later MR2. I will own another after I have space or the kids are grown.

Yeah, it's not a Toyota, but I also tried a late model 240SX...and at 6 ft 4 my hair was rubbing on the headliner and I sort of had to look down to see out of the windshield. I didn't even try to drive it a far distance.

Some Celicas, especially the last models sold here, are probably too small for someone my size....they look like a girl's car anyway, so I never tried them. Supras, no matter the year, should be fairly roomy for the driver and front passenger.

MR2 with T-Tops.

MR2s have plenty of legroom, but forget getting in there with a helmet on at 6'6". Unless the T-tops are out.

What about a C5 Corvette? Probably cheaper than a Supra.

Im 6'4, I have sat in an MR2, and it was acceptable, but a helmet wouldnt be a possibility. I cant even get in a position where i could drive a rwd celica or supra becasue of the last of headroom.

I'm 6'0". I put on a Miata like a glove. I get into an AW11 MR2 like an ordinary car. The MR2 actually fit me better than the Miata, I think. That goes for both the T-top and sunroof models - I fit with a helmet just fine.

I'm 6'3" 190 with a 34ish inseam, and I can't fit in an na miata, but am mb fits me just perfect. I also fit an rsx like a glove, but a few more inches above the waist and it would be uncomfortable, helmet was not fun but doable.

I'm 6' and 220 pounds, 31 inch inseam. I can fit in a 1st gen MR2 without a helmet. Put on the skid lid and no way. I fit fine in a 2nd gen. Never had any problem fitting in any of the RWD Celicas or the Supras.

6'0 here, and go a bit over 260. I've been driving a mildly tweaked AE86 for 14 years now. It is outfitted with Corbeau LG1/Legacy wide seats. I'm more comfortable in it, then my wifes IS300!

btw, besides height and weight... I do have a tall back, there is a decent amount of headroom, even using a helmut

Just to add what others have already reported, I am 6' 2", 215-220pounds, and slightly longer than average legs (36" inseam) and here are my findings:

AE86 Corolla with sunroof and stock seats-OK without helmet, helmet on just brushes roof. AE86 without sunroof, OK for me, even with helmet, but probably not to the tune of an extra 4" of headroom. AW11 MR2 is a very similar situation, fine for me with helmet, stock seats, but not really any extra headroom. Aftermarket seats might buy enough room in either car, but it would be a custom extra-low mount for sure. My rally car had aftermarket seats pretty much on the floor and I had probably 6" of headroom without helmet, no sunroof, and no headliner. The SW20 second-gen MR2 is fairly cavernous inside stock and well worth a try for you.

Supras and RWD Celicas seem fine to me when I've tried them, but I am not as familiar with them so I can't give accurately give too many details.

AE86 have a good amount of room. im 6'3" 225#s, the one i owned had a sunroof. I just took it out and riveted in an aluminum panel before painting it. looked like crap but gave me tons of head room. then i sold the car... and regret it lol that was such a fun car to fool around in even though it was slow. very comfortable too.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I'm more interested in the Mk III Supra then the Mk IV Supra, which I find to expensive. I like cars that are "diamonds in the rough" and somewhat affordable to work on. That's the reason I own the "Redheaded stepchild" of the Z family.

I'm going to have to find a 2nd generation MR2 to sit in or drive, I really like the way they look.

I've never sat in a C5 vette, The C4 is to small for me although I have a buddy that just purchased a C6 and I fit fine in them.

MKIII Supra is definitely the way to go if you want a nice fast GT car on a budget (and sweet 80s styling). I've got ~$8k (including $1k for the car) into mine and it's got over 600hp and a solid suspension/brake setup and is still cumfy/driveable enough to be a DD. The gas mileage on the other hand...
