I am sure that is part of it, but even in Tennessee, home of "Our kids can't read but we got good roads" I haven't seen a car not scrape getting into and out of parking lots and driveways.
In New Orleans we just move than to the left lane of the highway.
And don't forget the Bubba factor. Outside of urban northeast and maybe west coast states, the proliferation of bigger and bigger pick ups and SUVs has made small car life hell. I plan my routes to make right turns from a right turn lane as much as possible going to and from work. This way right on red and the lights don't impact my commute as much. If I can't see around you I can't pull out. That extra 6" in seat height is huge in that situation.

I am seriously considering an X1.
It goes like this... I am replacing an E36 and our other car is a V70. I am not a SUV fan. I want a small wagon but the BMW 3 series wagon and All-Road are too pricey. The V60 doesn't do it for me because I would never consider buying the sedan version of the car. Then I started looking at hatchbacks. The Japanese hatchbacks aren't my style. I want a really nice interior. The GTI does not come with key-free entry (a must have if I am buying new, this excluded the TSX wagon BTW). If I were to settle on a sedan I think you cannot buy a better car than the Accord EX-L V6 considering the cost. However, I really want a wagon, I'll settle for a hatchback, and I don't need it to be big. I already like BMWs... so X1... a four door hatch that rides a little high but drives nice. If it wasn't lifted no one would call it a Crossover.
I went to test drive an X1 today. Up close and personal it is one ugly and awkward looking BMW. I am back to hating crossovers

If you are low enough you just see under the raised pickup. I don't understand your first statement. Are you saying all cars scrape getting into and out of parking lots and driveways? Cause I am pretty sure neither of my lowered ones do that except for a couple places.

yes that is what I am saying.
None of my non-lowered cars scraped except in a couple of places either. The 5 would scrape everywhere.
