Who knows a spectacular badass airbrush artist for my next helmet?
I know a guy, but he's in North Carolina. I can ask for some art examples if you're willing to ship and he winds up being willing to do it

Sure. I'd love to see some of his work!
but...I was a few drinks deep when I had this idea last night. I'm not so sure I need to be as "loud" as a custom painted helmet. Undecided.
I have no leads but my daughter is an artist and I'm trying to get her into pin striping, truck lettering, and painted graphics. Nobody does much of this and it can be a lifelong side gig. She paints shoes and coats for kids in high school.
So, how much does a helmet paint job cost? Curious to use that to encourage her.

I got 50$ to do a helmet at challenge last year. But I did it with markers, in the dark, and I was pretty smashed. Sober with better ingredients during daylight would probably cost more. Also I didn't do it with the idea of getting money.

She gets $35-$45 (not including shoes) for the above shoe painting. It might be a 4+ hour job for her but she is only 17 years old so it's all cash.
Here is a link to the best helmet thread I've seen on the internet. Over 100 pages long ranging from old school through current designs. I believe there are mentions on certain pages of various painters but it's primarily a pic thread. Might give someone ideas.

10$ an hour for a 4 hour job in cash isn't terrible. I think the helmet I did took me 3 hours. There was also pizza. If I was a real live professional I'd probably charge closer to double that.

I saw the helmet in The Challenge hotel parking lot and was impressed.
Several people were, apparently. I was more impressed that you went back for the Subaru guys.

From my son's karting days a few years back, most of the ones that I knew getting custom paint started around $1000 and up to $4000. But those were by the well known painters that painted Indy and NASCAR helmets, too

JG, can you post a picture of yours? And what did you pay (if you don't mind sharing). Thanks!
