I found a 91 E30 with "a bit of rust on the underside of the hood" but it appears to be straight mechanically. New fuel pump, suspension etc are listed in the ad. The interior looks a little beat (the seats have massive rips in them). The guy wants $600 for it. My question is what should I look out for. I want to snag this if its in decent condition, but I don't want to rush into buying a shoddy car. Any advice would be appreciated.

Look for rust, everywhere. Also, read this thread over at bimmer forums

If it was me, i would look for rust problems, electrical issues effecting driveability, and stuctural damage (the things which i have no interest in fixing, especially on a pos car), and if none of those things are a problem, then buy it.

Its a good deal..

If its a manual transmission. Even a better deal.

If it has not been cared for the driveshaft bearing and guilbo will be bad. Also odometer wont work.

Rust, Check the frame rails under the floors. And the rear suspension mounting points.

if those are soilid then grab it.
