I have a lever action grease gun that I've used successfully in the past. I put in a new grease tube and can't seem to be able to build enough pressure. I can take the fitting off the top and get grease flow, I can get grease out of the bleeder on the top. The plunger designed to push the grease up doesn't seem to have much resistance though. It's easy to push it all the way in to the top even with a new tube. Should I feel a lot of resistance to the plunger at some point?

I've tried bleeding it quite a few times.

It just seems like I can't build enough pressure to push grease through the flexible hose. I tried a rigid pipe that also came with it and that did not flow either.

I'd think a pneumatic would be great but that's not going to happen.

I had this issue with Mobile 1 synthetic grease. Change to a different type and have had no problems. Do you have another grease tube to try and confirm it is the gun?

Sounds to me like you've still got air in the head.

Probably not the problem but did you put the tube of grease in backwards? The spring loaded plunger will hang up at the back if you do this and you get no pressure / grease.. .. Yes I have done this.

Thank you for the help guys. I screwed around with it for hours trying to get the thing to pump grease. I must have taken it apart 50 times, yes I'm persistent and probably a little loose in the head. When I had finally given up I was cleaning things up when I found a grease covered spring and check ball on the garage floor. It turns out they fell out of the head when I took it apart the first time to changeover to a flexible hose. Without the check ball the pump was just pushing grease back into the cartridge.

Now that it's fixed I was finally able to grease my new steering and ball joints on the Jeep. Thanks again!
