The sound "modified hondas" make has nothing to do with Honda's or Honda's being Modified. Any car with the idiotic shyte that ricers call "exhausts" draped onto the done side of the engine will sound terrible. One of the best sounding cars I have spent significant time behind the wheel of is a bone stock 99 civic si a good friend of mine owns. It just sings when you are jabbing at it and burbles around very civilly when you are not. I count anything NA motor that makes 100 hp per liter of displacement as "modified"! Thank god for ricers though, I picked up a 99-00 Si cat back with 20k on it for $25 and modified it a bit to run it on my modified 96 hatch. Works great. You can put together a very good system that will sound just fine, even on a modified honda.

You should hear one with an AEM cold air and a Mugen Twin Loop axleback (mine). I'm 37 and I'm still not tired of that sound.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. Never been a big fan of loud exhausts, which 99% of the time, it's some douche slapping on a Pepboys pipe on a stock engine. But quality set ups can sound real nice. My plans for my Civic, when a B or K-series goes in, is OEM intake (ITR or Legend) with maybe a Mugen exhaust. My ITR with stock everything sounded nice at 8.4k RPM's. In my 30's now and something like an N1 would drive me nuts.

Post-post edit: Looks like the Mugen TL was already mentioned...

It takes some patience, but the best Civic projects are the ones that some other kid started, then gave up when he or she couldn't get the ECU to play nice, and is dumping to get out of mom's driveway. I have seen B18 motors in 4th and 5th gen Civics with all kinds of mods trade for under $5K, but they need something to make them run.
