The work looks pretty professional. Seller claims that it's "off the factory floor", but I've sure as heck never seen one. I've spent far too much time searching the internet and turned up nothing. At this point, I just need some closure on how this thing came to be.

Definitely NOT off the factory floor. Might be a reference to the conversion done so well it could be factory.
My thought was one of the "flower cars" for funeral homes that you see turn up now and then. Those were typically a little older than that one though, not sure how long that tradition hung around. Usually seen it in early 70s Caddys.
EDIT: Well, the Wiki link shows a mid 90's car, so I guess it was still around then. Red would be an odd color for a funeral car though.
The real answers on "factory" will come from how well the interior mods and panels are done. Any inside pictures, especially the area from behind the seats?
Maybe "off the factory floor" means that as soon as the car was purchased, new it was converted. Not a more recent conversion.

We think a lot alike, even down the the color being unusual for that type of vehicle

In reply to John Welsh :
No interior pics at all. The only other pic available is an exterior shot from the front of the car.
And this has very little to do with this thread but I stumbled upon it as I was researching Lincoln’s:

Interesting, Mark VII and Mark VIII trucksters, and a Town Car wagon. I liked the last two generations of Marks, but that wagon sure does it for me!
you should probably buy it and do some more research after ownership... for science

For $1500 I'd be pretty tempted. For $6500 I'll just admire it from afar and keep the peace at home.

Don’t think the “factory” would use diamond plate!
I wonder if it was made by the same company that made the Fairmont Durango.

And if it was, it would have this sticker on the driver's door jamb.

It's like a newer version of those. Interesting information about the coachbuilder there. Apparently, Caribou Motor Company also trucked some Cadillacs in the late 70s. I'm not seeing anything newer than the late 70s though.

Foxbody truck you say?! Hmmmm.
Off the factory floor could mean it might have been just a shell etc that was delivered unfinished to the conversion company. Or it could perhaps refer to the company that did the modifications.
I posted one a while ago that was for sale in Florida, it had an 8ft. box. Got a whole lot of from the troops.
