Help me find 52mm axle dust caps.

These are for a German made trailer and the common 2 inch ones just fall off. I found some but refuse to pay $16 shipping on a $2 item that weighs just ounces. 52mm = 2.047 inches.

These things but the less elaborate stamped tin is just fine.

Seems it's easier to buy a pair of Bearing Buddies in that size than regular stamped caps. I'd be looking at older German and Japanese stuff. Maybe just go to the pick and pull with a set of calipers.

I've done it two ways:

1. Get a strip of appropiate thickness sheetmetal, wrap it around and spot weld.

2. Find a bead roller that fits and roll a bead around it. That usually stretches the metal enough to make it fit.

Not my German made sailplane trailer, the owner's just befuddled with the shipping fees.

Contacted a brake shoe manufacturer in Ohio who keeps nothing in stock, but subs it to a dealer in Wisconsin. I called, they're closed for two weeks; perhaps they also carry the caps. Drum brake shoes are 50mm wide X 200mm drum if you know a hook up.

If the brakes also need rebuilt, it might not be an awful idea (especially in the long haul) to swap in a standard axle with cheap readily available parts.

Regular cap plus local muffler shop or your harbor freight exhaust expander should work.

Or, depending on how much of the axle shaft sticks out, a soft plug.

Or, for a permanent temporary fix a pair of hose clamps per side and a rubber plumbing cap.

What if you used an exhaust pipe expander on the 2" ones?
