As I've mentioned before, my friend and I are looking for a car to drop our flathead Ford engine into. I've decided that I'd like to build a Model A Tudor. I'd prefer a 28-29, but I would certainly consider a 30-31 and maybe a Pheaton. This is the body style I'm talking about and something in similar condition or better would be perfect.

Let me know if you stumble across something like this in your Craigslist neighborhood.

Budget? Just checked Denver and there are a few, including a 29.

Two years ago I could have helped you; my wife's grandfather had quite the collection going. When he passed away they offed them at a pretty good price. I'll keep my eyes open.

How bout a 1925 T that runs and drives?

$7K

Or here is a 1931 A, but it's restored.

$11K

That's it local to me.

My stepdad has an entire field full of Model A's and parts. Most are pickups, though he has a dump truck. I don't think any are the style you are looking for. I know the prices are cheap, but they are in Cali. Just FYI.

28-29 cars have a narrower hood and grill. The easiest way to spot one is to look at the line formed by the windshield post. It extends all the way down to the frame.

On a 30-31, the line of the windshield post ends a the belt line.

Phaetons are four door roadsters (and rare).

I'd love a truck, but I don't think I'd fit in the cab very well.

Farmers were skinny back then.

I like Model Ts, but that's not what I want for this project. Their frames are really weak. Someday, I'll build a pre-'15 Speedster.

IIRC, they are the same cab as a coupe/roadster. They just bring the vicky's rear section up to behind the front bench, and then attach a bed.

I'm 99% sure he's got an AA as well:

And the dump:

Obviously his are all original and in the field.

Roadsters are pretty tight too. I like the look of the Tudor and it would allow me to mount the seat further back.

No, but I could have the right car shipped.

My FIL has a '30 that is in great shape. Already converted for modern running gear with a Mustang 2 front end and a 302, trans, and rear end from a Maverick. Its his toy but he doesn't drive it much anymore. Not sure he'd let it go for challenge money but I can ask. Its in SE MI.

A guy here in town has a differential for an A or T for sale. It has the single leaf spring pack turned sideways in the middle.

This looks like a good start. A little above challenge money but the panels seem clean.

That wouldn't work for us. We're aiming for a spot in the Race of Gentlemen. Pre-war hot rods and tank shifter motorcycles only.

That's really nice, but it's pretty expensive, even before shipping it across the country. That's getting close to the point where it would be more cost effective to buy a running restored car and strip it down..

A friend has one (a Model A) in the back yard with a locked up engine. I haven't seen it personally, but he says its in great condition. Judging by the 55 Buick and the 6v Jeep, I think he's telling the truth. Unfortunately, the car is right outside CCTV view.

PM me if you want me to go by and see him. It's in St Louis City in a not-so-hard-to-find place.

So, no cars that are actually on fire or on the bottom of a lake, but otherwise it's all good
