Before I spend the ridiculous $50 for the brake check valve (apparently only OEM is available, and no place has it for much less than that) for the 924S, figured I'd check with the hive to see if you can think of any other-brand/other-model check valve that might work for me (ex> this part for my e30 is about 8 bucks, but only has one vacuum attachment.

The Porsche one looks like this:

As you can see, it has two vacuum ports - one that takes a larger hose from the intake manifold, and another that comes from a multi-hose bunch leading to the vacuum pump.

So 1. Can you think of any other cars that have a similar-looking setup? and 2. is there any way to improvise using a single-port one (i.e. an external t-fitting or something). Or do these two vac hoses NEED to go in at separate spots? Don't really recall how this thing works..

If your old one is well and truly berkeleyed, cut it open and see what you can learn. i suspect you could go with a standard check valve and put a T in the hose for whatever that small connection goes to.

duh, didn't even think about that. Just dug through the trash to find the old check valve and broke it apart futher. As you suspected, both tabs just empty into the same chamber - so a T-fitting should work just fine. Thanks for stating the obvious. Sometimes I overthink things.

Also, I still can't believe a $50 part is basially just a plastic chamber with a little rubber gasket/stopper thing....

Why do you think the Marketing Department spent so much time drilling these words into our heads: "Porsche: there is no substitute"? Could it be that the guy in charge of Parts had a quiet word with the guy in charge of Slogans?

It could also be the overhead cost of having to warehouse, track and manage an oddball part that's been out of production for 30 years on a low volume car. The alternative to a $50 cost could easily be NLA.

Yup

Try and buy the rubber seal for a 914 that goes across the top of the windshield frame.

a point, but you can find these things in about 200 different places with just a quick online search. It doesn't appear to be out of production, necessarily.

Why this particular part is different from the same part on a VW/Audi, who knows, seeing as so much of these cars are built with VAG parts, lol...

So it's not just a PCV valve?

That just means that one of the massive online warehouses has some stock, so all the little websites that simply reship parts from the massive online warehouse show it in stock

Again, true of a lot of stuff. A headlight relay for a 914 is $25, or whatever they are, and you can get the same relay for a bug for $8. I would be surprised if there is not an effectively similar part out of the VW/Audi parts bin for cheaper.
