I've always had a thing for slammed CJ jeeps. Like so, not the silly military themed stuff you see people do.
I vote for the tractor or a museum.
I recommend ignoring me; I just don't have the flathead love.
Though I do dig tractors...

Damn, that's a great idea.
Note to self:
...Should have bought that TVR...
My first thought was Spitfire, but then saw 'prewar'.
How about an MG TC repli-body on a custom chassis?

I was actually searching for a ratty TD body yesterday. Not pre war, but it could be pretty cool. I only found restored cars out there, though.
I'd like to avoid fiberglass, though I came close to buying an unbuilt Bugatti kit the other day, my thought being that I could create a buck out of it to fabricate a body in metal.
That's an early 60, Coker used it because the later, larger models overheated easily.

I actually like the flatfender jeep suggestion, it isn't prewar (unless you decide that it qualifies since it isn't explicitly post-war), or perhaps find an old flatfender mail jeep? not something super chopped and slammed, but something more or less stock appearing, except maybe for a mild drop (if that's what you're into, of course) and wheels/tires. alternately, pre-war GP racer?
I think it was the mid-60's when the "round fender" Jeeps came out. I think the old body was CJ-2A or something like that. My thoughts would be 2wd, lowered, and as much tire as you can without body mods or flares. maybe a 2wd XJ for a front suspension donor? Leave any olive drab patina if it's real.
I've got a buddy who's selling a nice Willy's jeep. He'll take $3500, looks pretty nice from what little I've seen.

after "1946 G.I. hot rod", that was going to be my next suggestion:
1. decent sized belly tank
2. lots of 1.5" (or smaller) DOM tube
3. interior made from a scramble of WWII fighter/bomber bits
4. flathead Ford
5. toploader 4 speed + gearshift linkage from hell
6. mid-mount engine/transmission with a tiny driveshaft
7. ~1" of suspension travel
8. cycle fenders
9. ????
10. profit! and lots of speeding tickets and roasted tires

+1. that's not pre-war enough.
Better to go with locost-derived than a typical locost. I once doodled up what I though a locost modeled after a model A would look like
A flathead would be best, though, in actual pre-war tin.
