Got this in an email from my mother today. Car in question is a 92 chevy 3/4 ton truck. Engine was replaced recently. I don't know much else about it though.

I've been driving Dad's 3/4 ton truck around and on Saturday as I was coming back in to town it lost power all of the sudden. I pulled over and the battery light and service engine lights came on. when I restarted car it powered right up and I got home, but today the truck is completely dead. probably some sort of electrical problem since jumping it didn't do anything.

Any ideas on what could be the issue? Maybe simply a loose battery cable? I don't know what all was involved when "it lost power all of the sudden," not sure if that means all electrical things or if only the engine died or what. If it was in the charging system, jump starting it would have worked right? And it wouldn't be the starter if she did restart the truck to get home, plus it wouldn't make the truck die initially.

Battery cable or something along those lines. It's where I'd start anyway.

Sounds like it lost all power for a while (warning lights only came on after pulling over). So yeah start by checking & cleaning the battery terminals & clamps, apply vaseline to keep dirt out.

Grounds.. Check all the grounds in the engine bay. I just did a 5 speed swap in my '94 K1500 and it started just fine, I went to back it up and it died after I moved it 3 feet. Starter would run but it wouldn't start. Turns out there was a ground on the engine that was loose near the firewall. But if your saying even the starter won't turn, then check all the wiring coming off the battery.

Edit: Mine is a 6.5L Turbo Diesel so hers may not have this ground.
