as project abomination continues onward I'd like to identify my rear end.
According to my research it is supposed to be a Dana 60, Dana 70, or 14 bolt GM. It is Dually. It has 10 bolts on the cover in a semicircular pattern. It is according to the wife 13" in diameter. It has a drain bolt in the cover.
pics of diff:
just because this thing loves throwing a monkey wrench in things. It appears that by VIN it is a 1972 not 73 like the title states.
which changes my choices to:
From my view, it looks to be the h110. WTF is a GMC h110 :scratchhead: and can I get a locker for it?

It's sort of the new england version of grm for 4x4 enthusiasts. Someone there will be able to answer the question, and help you figure out the most cost effective option.
Lincoln lockers are always available, no matter the type.
Congratulations, you have a GM Corporate 10-bolt.
You should be able to get a locker, limited slip or spool fairly easily.
There are a few different ring gear sizes in the 10-bolt diffs, you'll probably need to pull the cover and use a tape.
-edit-
Nevermind, you said dual wheels. Definately not a conventional 10-bolt rear.
Does it also have a drop-out carrier like a Ford 9"?
You have an Eaton axle, the GM RPO code will be H072.
The H072 should have a bolt on the snout of the diff with a locknut. This bolt has a bronze tip and runs against the back of the ring gear to prevent deflection.
They came with factory lockers but they're hard to find now. Gearsets were usually 4:10 and 4:56.
Tough as nails but parts are getting hard to find. Apparently Corporate 14-bolt guts will fit but I've never tried it myself.

My duallie has a Dana 70HD in it, and it doesn't look like that!
Does this diff cover make my rear look big?
as I said above (under the 3 pics)
It looks to be #3 which is an eaton 110

It has a cover, on the back of the diff. Don't need a drop-out carrier!
Thanks for the helpful post there scooter..
The diff I was talking about has a cover AND a drop out carrier.
I know, I owned one.
But thanks for coming out.

Sorry, I thought you asked for help identifying your axle.
I gave you the info my application guide stated, perhaps it's wrong.

I did ask for help, and I appreciate yours.
my original confusion stemmed from the fact that my title says 73, but it is actually a 72.
What application guide did you use? I used fel pro which showed both the 072 you mentioned and the 110 I believe it to be.
Looking at the bottom half bolt holes I feel it matched up to the 110.
In reply to internetautomart:
The Hollander Interchange and www.rockauto.com both gave me those numbers.
It could be that the 110 is Eatons number and H072 is GM's designation. Kinda like GM used M20 no matter what Muncie box they used.

In reply to Trans_Maro:
anything is possible.
I don't have access to the hollander interchange guide.
I'm just going on the data I have.
FWIW rockauto missed the 110 option that felpro lists. which is sad when you consider that they are selling fel-pro and their own buyers guide shows it fitting the van RDS5049 vs RDS5088 http://fme-cat.com/PartDetailWindow.aspx?b=FL&pt=Rear%20Axle%20Gasket%20Set&pn=RDS%205049&lu=1972%20CHEVROLET%20G30%20VAN%20V8%205.7L%20350CID%20VIN%20E&t=
