The Challenge Fiero is getting closer but missing a few items yet. (1987 GT)
It needs brakes. All 4 rotors are trash and the rear calipers are missing. Since it's budget exempt to replace factory parts is that the way to go? Apparently there is a small upgrade to be had by using 1990 Grand Am brakes, would that be in the spirit of the rules?
And since I'm terrible about finding just the right item, if anyone has links to the things I need to order I'd be immensely grateful.
I don't think that you'll need anything more than stock with good pads for autocross. Invest in good pads that heat up quickly and sticky tires and you should be good.
If you were road racing or doing track days, etc. then I could see where there might be a need for more thermal capacity in the system (bigger, heavier rotors, larger/more pistons, more pad swept area, etc.)
Generally for autocross, you want the smallest, lightest brakes possible that will stop the car as fast the tires will allow. You'll need to do some testing to figure this out.
Here's a page on the Grand Am/Beretta brake conversion:

Someone might give you, or sell you very cheaply, a rebuildable set of stock rear calipers if you post on Pennock's Fiero Forum and explain that you're building a Fiero for the Challenge and every penny counts toward your budget. Fiero people take so much (undeserved) crap that they're always happy to help another Fiero guy. Caliper rebuild kits are ~$7 on rockauto.
