Forum browsing even when sober can be dangerous to your wallet. I really didn't plan to buy another NA Miata as the white NA6 (that I agreed to sell) was supposed be the last one. Well, until a '95 M-Edition that has almost all the correct parts on it showed up.
The plan for this car is pretty much street-only use, maybe the odd autocross. Nothing that would require a rollbar, so for once I'm not going to stick a rollbar in it and enjoy the massive amount of additional space this affords me.
But I'm not going to leave it stock either.
Right now, I have a vague plan to build an all-rounder with a bit more oomph that we can use as a nice day driver and roadtrip car.
The plan so far includes:
- Suspension rebuild - the car has 100k on it. 'nuff said. Plan is to use IL motorsports rubber bushes which I already have to happen at hand, and some sort of nice, reasonably comfortable suspension. Mostly considering the FM options - I've had the Konis + springs and VMaxx Classic, both with the FM ARBs. If I really feel flush I might spring for the Fox coilovers, although I really don't need coilovers on this car.
- Needs moar powah. Well, they all do. Bank account says no to LS conversion, so I'm guessing we're talking turbo here. I don't have that much wrenching time so something like a K swap is likely to consume too much of my time. I'm getting the impression that for a reasonably competent hobby wrench, it should be possible to install the FM kit on a weekend? Without clutch upgrades etc, just installing the actual turbo kit. I don't want to assemble my own kit, or get one of the cheaper ones where one trades their time in exchange for saving a few bucks.
- Re the power upgrades, I happen to have a set of high-compression 1880cc-ish pistons squirreled away somewhere. But I'm guessing that rebuilding the engine for more power and then having to map an aftermarket ECU to prevent it from blowing up would be a lot more time consuming.
- Some additional sound deadening to ensure more comfort for longer trips.
- Converting to an NB steering wheel as I don't really like the OEM NA one.
Anything else I'm missing?
