Hey all, my dad has decided to sell his 85 rx7. Its about as showroom as you can get. 40k original miles, 5 spd, a/c, and the body/paint/interior is almost perfect. I have tried to search prices, but I know nothing of rx7's, seriously NOTHING Whats a fair price range or should I just put it on ebay and see what it brings?
Thanks
Paul
Find out if it is a GSL-SE. There will be a badge on the rear hatch. If it is an GSL-SE, it is worth considerably more than a standard RX-7.
Also--- prices for these should increase over time. If you can hold onto it, you may want to. If not, you'll risk kicking yourself when it sells for $25,000 10 years from now.

If it is a well maintained original, then it is worth more than the bulk of the market and harder to put a price on.
The real question should be "how do I reach the proper market for such a car?" Be aware that the "proper market" is populated by pros who know what it can be sold for and will low-ball you so they can make a quick profit. That might in fact be the sure-sign that you are marketing in the right place when these guys start to pester you.

Yeah right now id say a non GSL-SE 4k ish if it the upmost pristine quality.
However big sellers right now are all original LE, GSL-LE and any S1. Ive seen some low mileage ones go upwards of of 10k
there are some FCs here but this will give you some idea:

Hell try and list it with BaT actually...
That sounds like an eBay car. It will never sell for less than market value there and there's a very good chance that it will sell for much more.
I just sold a 1985 GS model for $1200 within 15 minutes of posting it on craigslist.
It was in original "pristine" condition, but had an ugly red interior, 80k on the clock, and low compression on the front rotor.
YMMV

Thanks for all the quick replies everyone, as always really appreciated! It is I believe a base GL or GS which ever is right. Not the GSL-SE with all the equipment. If it helps to determine, it still has a carb on it, not FI. I'm leaning toward agreeing with Woody, ebay it. It will sell for whatever the market will bear! Honestly, I'm not rotor fan, and on top of it, I'm just mehhhh on first gens. Would that be an S1 or FB, or??? Now if was an FC... But as always, space is the issue.
Paul
Carb = 12a
So not GSL-SE
To answer your question though, it'd be a "Series 3 FB" but I would just refer to it as a "FB"
Next question: Where is he located?

About a half hour south of Pittsburgh, Pa. And no the car has never ever seen salt! Except out of the garage windows
Does the car have rear disc brakes?
If so it is the more desirable, 12a engined GSL, the GSL-SE is the 13B EFI.
Does it have a sunroof? Non sunroof cars have some interest as they are lighter.
Leather or cloth seats?
Check for rust under the storage bins, 1. it is the bane of FB owners and 2. if it doesn't have this rust it is very rare and worth mentioning/photographing for sale.
Is the stereo all factory?
Value is subjective but FBs are starting to become collectable.
I agree you are selling too early, this car can be worth real money in the forseeable future.

I like this one, doesn't have the red interior and looks super clean under the hood.
