I'm helping my buddy sell his 1968 Mustang. He's a car guy, but not the kind of obsessive car nut that we are, so he's a little light on the details of the car. I'm looking for advice on where to list this beauty, and what kind of details prospective buyers would be looking for.
This car seems to be setup for drag racing, with switches for a line lock and cooling fan, raised rear end (possibly with hydraulics) and centerline wheels. Under the hood, I see headers, Edelbrock intake, MSD Blaster, and lot's of Ford Motorsports parts. I have lots of photos if anyone knows Modified Mustangs and can help me identify what has been added.
Other than the obvious Ebay and CL, try the classifieds at vintagemustang.com and stangfix. I'm also hooked up with a lot of Mustang guys, so list some details when you get them and a price and I'll spread the word.
What is he looking to get for it? My dad is always looking for another Mustang.

Get the VIN coded as soon as possible. That will tell you what the car WAS.... and what's been changed for sure vs. what appears stock/model appropriate.
Very clean, I likey Wimbledon White. I guess the 80s wheels are retro now and it most likely is sporting air shocks.I'll guess it to be a C code car. If I remember right A and C are two BBl small Fords. T is for a six cylinder. 68's could have 289s or 302s too I think. Do give up the first parts of the vin please (off the dash, door may have been replaced) and the price.
Well... i have nothing to add here except that it sure is pretty.

Looks like it might me a 302 car- at least now, and probably originally.... the Edelbrock says Torker 302 on it. I'd guess that to be model of intake mani/engine designation. Got any pics with the air cleaner off the carb? Know if it's a two barrel or a four barrel?
In reply to mndsm:
An Edelbrock 302 manifold would fit a 289 also.

In '68 you could get a 289 bbl or a 302 4 bbl. The engine codes were C and J respectively. C and A applied to the '65-'67 289 cars.
J code is where it's at! I have a 68 GT Fastback with a J Code. I could just stare at it all day. (I have to, it doesn't run)

Ooooh. Learn something new every day.
The VIN says:
8 (1968)
F (Assembly:Dearborn, MI)
01 (Mustang 2-Door Hardtop)
C (289 CID, 195HP, 1-2BBL, 8.7:1)
The carb:
Still trying to figure out a price, I have to find out what he paid and what the Blue Book is and what they are selling for currently. The engine compartment looks heavily modified to me, so not sure of the engine. What is the quick way to determine 302 or 289 or other?
Date casting from either the part number or actual date code. Most of the 289's had a C5AE-6010-A part number, IIRC, and the 302's had C7AE-6010-A part number or C8AE, IIRC again.
Outside of something like that, they are external dimensionally identical.

If it actually is a 2 barrel oringal carb'd car it would be a C code. They phased out the K/A codes in 68 only 65-67. Got to get the vin and decode what it was thats where all the value is. I mean it could be a Y code 390 with a 2 barrel.
A clean coupe with an older resto and no rust issues seems to be an 8 to 9K car now. With a different roof its double to triple that.
