I second the 3/4 ton Suburban and something fun plan. 996T would be a lot of fun!
I've never been a huge fan of the Suburbans, plus they're just enormous.
What other decent tow/ski vehicle out there for ~$10k? Touareg V8? Tahoe?
I've never really differentiated between the suburban/tahoe/yukon what ever thing. Its all the same chassis and motor. I just call them all suburbans.

Do you have a build thread on the Allroad anywhere? We are going to sell my wife's 2006 V70R and are thinking through replacements. She loved my B5 S4, so an Allroad might be an interesting alternative.
No, not really. I bought the car from a friend, he's the one that did all the mods. I've just been doing maintenance and cleaning it up. Drop me an email and I'll tell ya about it.
Stumbled across this on CL. Pretty close to your price range. Just a data point for you.

Nice car! I just can't ever buy a yellow car tho. It's one of those colors that I'm just not into unfortunately.
My friend has a yellow 996 C4S and it's a nice car, but, it's, well, yellow!

I could rock yellow. I'm even thinking how much more fun this car would be than my 993. It is with great amazement that I realize I could sell my 993 for more than the price of this TT. Wheels are turning!
