Yes, but judging by Hemmings listings, you can still get a decent car for around $30K. A price I don't see going down for at least 20 years or so when Gen X starts to reach retirement age and begins to liquidate toy assets.
TBH, if I could find any 68-70 Charger with a clear title in any condition for under $5K, I'd be damn tempted.

I'm with Dean on this one. The 65 Rivs are just beautiful cars, plus they move on out with the 425 and dual quads.
I second the old truck suggestion. Early Bronco, Land Cruiser, International Scout, Jeep, etc. The market has caught on fire and they are appreciating by double-digit percentages. They have all that 60's/70's charm and style and are a hoot to drive, not to mention way easier to get in and out of.
We are going out to look at a Riviera and a 55 spyder this weekend. I have a feeling the spyder is going to win out. Still would rather have a 356 speedster then the 550 for just ease of entry.
Trying desperately to get him to look at a early 60's corvette in driver condition.

Getting single digit gas mileage the whole way. Don't get me wrong, I love these cars. And the early Toronados too
If you "settle" for a non-RT 383, $30,000 is easily doable.

Honestly I generally don't even think about gas mileage with my classics. Even when gas was at its highest, I just pull to the pump and fill it up, then enjoy the car.

I vote for the '69 Charger, if only for value-retention. While it's possible many of the 60's muscle cars will vary in value as baby boomers leave the market, I argue the "DoH"/Gen X guys who grew up in the 70's and 80's will keep the value of these cars strong as they age and have more disposable income. Personally, I keep hoping to find a cheap project car even if I have to sit on it for a few years before I can do anything with it.
Totally, I mean that was Dom's car in the fast and the furious......that's what made them famous, right?
(Time to duck and run away)
Of course I found something I like on BAT which I hate dealing with especially there auction setups.

I'd sell ya my Impala, but you'd probably want to swap out the Inline-6 and 3-spd column shift if 75mph and terrorizing the locals was on your list. But at under $9k you'd have plenty left in your budget for engine/trans options

Well in that case, I'm out of Americanish ideas. How about a 450SLC?
Close but I'd go back to around '69 and get a 280SL:
Can you get a SL for that little money if so that is a serious contender for me.
Car was run in the 2007 Panamerica with a real 550 4 cam motor and transmission and brakes. It is so getting this sticker package back. Might even do the cage this way again.
Dodge Dart/Plymouth Valiant?
El Camino?
I think truck of some flavor is a good avenue to investigate..
550 was a bust. Getting on train to for next 7 hours up the coast to pick something else up and drive it back roadkill style. 16 hour of travel to go 600 miles only on SoCal

Not as described, or couldn't agree on price?

Illegal registration, not really keen to pickup a felony. Was supposed to be updated to SB100 under the leniency rules but never finished it right.
Wow, I thought that was too good to be true. A 550 with a 4 cam for ~$30k! Wating patiently to see what you are driving back. I will be in a similar situation this spring. I am planning on selling my 82 911 SC then for a similar price range.

Another 550? a hint perhaps?
