Came out this morning to a flat tire. Took it in to get a patch, they said the sidewall is split. So obviously I need new tires.
Here is where this gets fun: I am moving tomorrow, about 150 miles. This timing is really bad for me. I "need" the car to work for all of tomorrow. After that, I can let it be out of commission for awhile.
Walmart is the only place that has anything close to the right size in stock. Will a 195-60-15 fit under the wheel well? I'm not too concerned with it rubbing on tight turns, I just need it to get me home.
Followup question: How bad an idea is it to only replace the one tire? Keep in mind that it is the front; the drive wheels will remain the same size. I know it will mess up the handling, and I know it isn't a good idea. But I'd rather not spend a lot of money for tires that aren't the right size and are merely "good enough". The tire would eb on the car only for the one drive home, admittedly 150 miles of a drive home.
no problem. People fit 15x9's under a miata with minor fender rolling. Good luck!

I know that the snow tires O had on my stock 92 Miata were noticeably larger than stock diameter, and had no rubbing problems that I ever encountered...I'm pretty sure they were 195/60-15.
It'll probably rub on big compressions on the fender liner. No big deal there, no permanent damage. Potential problem with catching the fender lip at full lock if you hit a bump, watch out for that.
15x9s with 225/45-15 tires are the same diameter as stock, it's the diameter that's an issue. The 195/60-15 is considerably taller.
Short version: go for it and drive carefully in parking lots and entering driveways.
Surely there's a used tire shop up in the B/N area that might have something cheap to get you 150-miles down the road. No one on CICENET has one?

Excellent.
In related news, is anyone interested in a 1999 10AE Miata? 124k miles, brand new clutch (less than 100 miles) Flyin Miata hitch, springs, Koni yellows, a cat-back exhaust, original wheels are in good working order but look bad, and SSR type C wheels? Hardtop negotiable, price uncertain for all of it. You can pick what brand new tires you want!
Is it not possible to find two cheap tires on Miata wheels within a 15 minute drive through your local Craigslist? Should take less time and money than Walmart.

What is your email? PM doesn't work for me to send, so send me a PM
Yeah I'm curious on a price too.
Why not use the space saver spare?

Because I don't trust a 16 year old tire that is only rated for 55mph. Easy button sure, but I'm not comfortable with it.
Space savers have a very short tread life, too. That's why they're limited to a low speed, to encourage people to take 'em off. I'd want to monitor it closely for that distance.
I suspect you could find a much newer one in 4x100 in a wrecking yard. Heck, you could likely get two for practically nothing.

For $70 out the door, I have 1 new tire on and don't have to worry about transporting my wheel along with my clothes and my stuff. Keep in mind, this all started at 4PM on a Saturday and needed to be complete by noon on Sunday.

Is walmart the only place in your town that sells tires? I'd hit some of the larger chain, might cost a couple of bucks more but you might fir the right tire.
