New to me super sweet '96 AE102 Yoda Rolla Wagon. 5mt 7afe with 105k on the clock.

Everything I wanted and nothing I didn't except: 1. rust, 2. rust, 3. power windows, and 4. more rust.

The TD Pro Rallys didn't come with it, but I already had 'em wrapped in Dunlop Wintersports so they had to get on right away in time for the little regional dump we had two weeks ago. Pic is at a small ski resort in Poconos PA where I pretend to be a professional ski patroller. Sometimes.

So, proper build post and all that pending, I'm having trouble driving this thing because of the seat. I'm only 5'9" but all torso and the seat is so short that even on the highest setting my shoulder blades hit the bottom of the headrest and there's nothing behind my head at all when I drive. There's still plenty of headroom in the car because the wagon is taller than the sedan but yea I'm dying while driving and worried about dying if the car ever stops driving abruptly. (Been in enough totals and rollovers to know - some were even intentional wink)

I'm looking at two different seats as replacement candidates: A WRX seat from Devilsolsi he's selling  here on GRM, and a seat from a MR2 Spyder (actually a pair that the wife will prefer since they match but from the pics probably have less thigh bolster which is no bueno).

My seat looks like this:

Devilsolsi's WRX base looks like this:

MR2 Spyder seat:

So I have at my current disposal only hand tools, but can get to a compressor and a full mechanic's shop when I visit family bimonthly. I don't know how to weld and although I want to learn this is definitely not the right beginner project.

Please have away with ideas, comments, expletives, etc.

You might be able to cut the mounting brackets off the old seats and weld them to the new ones. Or better yet, remove the whole slider assembly from the old seats, remove the slider assembly from the new seats, put the old slider assemblies on the new seats.  Gonna take some fabbing.

In reply to Dr. Hess :

Thanks for jumping in Dr. Hess; I've been lurking your posts for eons. I honestly don't know how to fab something like this safely. Can you think of anything out there with a higher/high seatback adn decent head restraint that would bolt right in or close to it? I don't mind bolting down plates like some race seats require, but that doesn't help me much since as I said I can't weld.

You're either going to have to make or buy seat mounts for your car.  If you can't/won't make them, then you've gotta buy them.

I would be shocked if there is a bolt-together option.  The closest would be, as mentioned, removing your seat mount from the seat (if it can be done) and attaching another seat to it.  This likely won't lower your butt so your head will still be about the same distance from the roof but the new seat might have a taller back.

You'll need to log in to post.
